Songoftheday 10/5/18 - There's a place in your heart and I know that it is love, and this place could be much brighter than tomorrow...
"Heal The World" - Michael Jackson
from the album Dangerous (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #27 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8
Today's song of the day comes from the "King of Pop", Michael Jackson, whose 1991 album Dangerous had landed him four big pop hits with "Jam", "In The Closet", "Remember The Time", and the seven-week #1 "Black and White". The fifth single released from the record would be another of his inspirational songs in the vein of "Man In The Mirror", it was written by Jackson, who co-produced the track with Bruce Swedien. Unusual for Jackson, he doesn't appear in the music video, but rather children from impoverished and war-besieged parts of the world. And yes, this is a semi-crib of his own "We Are The World"...
"Heal The World" became Michael's fifth top-40 pop hit from Dangerous in March of 1993. The song only went to #62 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, but stayed on the list for 18 weeks, while it did much better on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") format, peaking at #9 on that radio list. Internationally, the single reached #2 in the UK, France, and Ireland, and made the top ten in Germany (#3), Belgium (#3), New Zealand (#3), the Netherlands (#4), Austria (#4), Switzerland (#5), and Norway (#6). In Australia, it topped out at #20, and in Canada it went to #21.

Here's Michael performing the song at President Bill Clinton's Inaugural Gala in 1992...
A year later, he brought the song out (along with "We Are The World" at the Super Bowl)...
Next up, a clip from his Dangerous tour in 1993 in Argentina...
Fast forward to a show in 1997 in Germany...
And finally, the song closed out the memorial for the singer done by his backup Judith Hill in Los Angeles in 2009...
Up tomorrow: Atlanta-based trio has some different fashion choices.
