Disco Dessert 9/1/23 - "Satin Soul" by Gene Page...

    " Satin Soul " was a club hit for jazz/R&B keyboardist/arranger/producer Gene Page.  Appearing on his album Hot City , the song was written and produced by disco and soul legend Barry White. On Billboard magazine's Disco Action chart, the single peaked at #10 in 1974. Sadly, Page died from the effects of alcoholism in 1998 at age 59.

    " The Warrior " was a club hit for the London-based band Osibisa, featuring three members from the West African nation of Ghana and one from the Caribbean county of Antigua. Appearing on their album Ojah Awake , the song was an appropriation of the song from the African-themed musical Ipi Tombi written by South Africans Bertha Egnos and Gail Lakier (it appeared briefly on Broadway as the final show at the Harkness Theatre). On Billboard magazine's National Disco Action Top-40, the Ojah Awake album was listed as a single entry, with "The Warrior", "Keep On Trying", and "Ojah Awake" listed as key DJ Cuts.  " Disco Choo Choo " was a club hit for the Canadian studio group Nightlife Unlimited. Appearing on their album Disco Choo Choo , the song was written by group members Tony Bentivegna, Luisa D'Orazio, and Louis Toleda with producer Peter Di Milo. On Billboard magazine's Disco Top-80, the single peaked at #18 in 1979.

Appearing on his album Groovin' You , the song was written by Mason with his wife Sally, and produced by Harvey with his brother Kenny. On Billboard magazine's Disco Top-80, the song peaked at #32 in 1979, while reaching #58 on the R&B Singles chart.

    " Doin' The Best That I Can " was a club hit for R&B singer Bettye LaVette. Released as a stand-alone single , the song was written by Mark Sameth and produced by Eric Maatthew and Cory Robbins, and remixed by disco legend Walter Gibbons. On Billboard magazine's National Disco Action Top-40, the single peaked at #13 in 1978.

    " I'm Your Boogie Man " was a club and radio hit for K.C. and the Sunshine Band. Appearing on their third album Part 3 (naturally), the song was written and produced by group leader Henry Wayne Casey (K.C.) and Richard Finch. On Billboard magazine's National Disco Action Top-40, the Part 3 album was listed as a single entry, with all the tracks listed as key DJ cuts, where it peaked at #9. Appearing on their album Goin' Places , the song was written and produced by Gene McFadden, John Whitehead, and Victor Carstarphen. On Billboard magazine's National Disco Action top-40, the Goin' Places album was listed as a single entry, with "Music's Takin' Over", "Jump For Joy", and "Goin' Places" listed as the key DJ cuts. Appearing on their album The Heat Is On , the song was written by the six-member group and produced by Rudolph and Ronald Isley. On Record World magazine's Disco File Top-20, the single peaked at #13 in 1975, while topping the R&B chart and getting to #4 on the pop Hot 100.

    "Heart & Soul" was a club hit for the studio group Heart & Soul, put together by singer/songwriter/producer Lou Gallo, who wrote, produced, and performed the stand-alone single . On Billboard magazine's National Disco Action Top-40, the single peaked at #25 in 1976.

    " Casanova Brown " was a big club hit for singer Gloria Gaynor. Appearing on her second album Experience Gloria Gaynor , the song was written by Jimmy Roach and was produced by Meco Menardo, Tony Bongiovi, and Jay Ellis. On Record World magazine's Disco File Top-20 chart, the Experience album was listed as a single entry, with the first three cuts, "Casanova Brown", "(If You Want It) Do It Yourself", and "How High The Moon" were listed as key DJ cuts.     " Gonna Fly Now (Theme From Rocky) " was a club hit for jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson. Appearing on his album Conquistador , the song was a cover of the concurrent #1 pop hit from the Sylvester Stallone film classic by Bill Conti. On Billboard magazine's National Disco Action Top-40, the single spent a week at #37 in 1977, while climbing to #28 on the pop Hot 100 and #46 on the Adult Contemporary radio list.

    " Love Chant " was a club hit for Eli's Second Coming, a studio group put together by producer Bobbi Eli (aka Philly native Eli Tatarsky). Appearing on the act's sole album Eli's Second Coming , the song was written by Eli with singer Barbara Ingram and keyboardist Ron Kersey.  On Record World magazine's Disco File Top-20, the single spent two weeks at #20 in 1976. It also made Billboard magazine's R&B Singles chart at #88.

    "Conquer All" was a club hit for Kennie Delt and Prana. Released as a stand-alone single, the song was written by Delt with Myron Mattox and Mark Stevens (the latter being Chaka Khan's brother). On Billboard magazine's National Disco Action Top-40 chart, the single peaked at #31 in 1978.

    "This Will Make You Dance" was a club hit for G.C. Cameron, who was lead singer for the Spinners from 1968 to 1972. Appearing on his third album You're What's Missing In My Life , the song was written by Harold Beatty and Brian Holland, and produced by the latter. On Billboard magazine's National Disco Action Top-40, the album charted as a single entry, with "This Will Make You Dance" marked as the sole key DJ cut, where it peaked at #14 in 1977.

Disco Dessert 8/1/23 - "People Are People" by 30 Dirty Junkies...

    " People Are People " was a club hit for the club act 30 Dirty Junkies. Released as a single overseas, the record is a tribal house cover of the new wave classic from Depeche Mode written by Martin Gore. There's nothing I could find about the act other than the remix was done by Pete Lorimer, leading me to believe that 30 Dirty Junkies may just be one of his recording monikers. On Billboard magazine's Dance Club Play chart, the import single peaked at #6 in 2003.
