" Angels Of The Silences " - Counting Crows from the album Recovering The Satellites (1996) Billboard Hot 100 peak: ineligible to chart Billboard Hot 100 Airplay peak: #45 This week's "robbed hit" comes from the rock band Counting Crows , whose debut album August & Everything After was a massive success, spinning of four radio hits, two of which made the top-40 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 Airplay chart with " Round Here " and the top ten airplay hit " Mr. Jones ". Also, another track from a label compilation, " Einstein On A Beach ", nearly made that mark in the fall of 1994. However, the fame took its price on lead singer Adam Duritz, who had to mentally regroup in order to start work on the band's sophomore effort, Recovering The Satellites , adding another guitarist, Dan Vickrey, to the mix. The first song from the set promoted to radio, "Angel Of The Silences", is a tone poem on Duritz's...

Disco Dessert 9/26/19 - "I Need You" from Sylvester...

Image
" I Need You " was a club hit for disco legend Sylvester. Appearing on his album Sell My Soul , the song was written by Eric Robinson and Victor Osborn as a sway away from pure disco music. The Sell Your Soul album charted as a single entry, with "I Need You" and "Sell My Soul" listed as key tracks, and rose to #6 on Billboard magazine's Disco Top 100 chart in 1980. Hey gang, it's time again for my top-100 tunes for the week. This week Pink stays on top for a second week, while Muse (pictured above) make it into the top-10. Former hits by Ellie Goulding, Calvin Harris & Ne-Yo, Usher, and Rita Ora drop out of my chart, while songs by Three Days Grace, Taryn Manning, and Rita Ora (again) make the biggest jumps (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red ). This Week             Song/Artist (last week's position in parentheses) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Blow Me (One Last Kiss) - Pink (1) 2. Some Nights - fun (2) 3. Ho Hey - The Lumineers (3) 4. I Will Wait - Mumford & Sons (8) 5. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together - Taylor Swift (5) 6. Hey folks, it's time for this week's "7 of the 70s", with seven nuggets from the Me Decade, and this time I'll travel back to 1973... Vicki Lawrence - "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" from the album The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia (1973) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 So wait, you're telling me you let your brother get executed for your homicides? Ooh, you're coooold, Vicki. (Click to see the rest of the post)

Kim Wilde - "Kids In America" from the album Kim Wilde (1981) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #25 (four weeks) Weeks in the top-40: 8 Today's Song of the Day is by new-wave singer Kim Wilde , who is the daughter of  British rock star Marty Wilde. Marty's claim to fame was covering American hits that weren't released there yet, kind of like the Pat Boone of the Isles. Kim's first hit, however, was written by Marty and her brother Ricky, and was a #2 record in England a year before crossing over to the States. Odd, for a single about American children.. "Kids In America" was one of three top-40 UK hits from her debut album, but she wouldn't see the top-40 in the US again until 1986, where like her dad, a remake would bring her to the top (in her case, the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On"). How Glee Became Unbearable in ten uneasy steps - Part 10: Dave Karofsky.

Image
It all started with a slushie. I want to preface this by saying that I'm not the kind of guy to invests himself in television characters. In fact, the majority of my boobtube viewing belongs to either the Maddow/Stewart/Colbert/formerly Olbermann pack, the Amazing Race (my only reality show vice), or adult cartoons like Family Guy, Archer, or South Park. With that there's not much of creative writing going on here. It was really a fluke that I even caught Glee . I think I didn't know about the pilot coming on until maybe a day or two beforehand. And when Glee started, I felt great affection and empathy for Chris Colfer's portrayal of Kurt Hummel, having growing up isolated as he was. Then there was Dave. Actually Dave's first couple of appearances didn't faze me, and his character was written in as first a bully to Finn, having Karofsky on the hockey team as rivals to Finn's football buddies, confronting Finn about his participation in the glee cl...
