It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom . This week a member of the biggest act in K-pop lands the first solo #1 in America from the genre.   " Like Crazy " - Jimin from the album Face (2023) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #1  Official British Singles Chart debut: #8  British Singles Sales debut: #2    On the strength of an embarrassing amount of sales from the rabid fanbase who snap up multiple different copies of the single, BTS Jimin has the top song of the week on the Hot 100, despite it having less than 100K spins on the radio during the week (less than 1% of its chart points, as compared to 78%% of its points coming from sales and 22% from streaming). As for the song itself, its a moody piece that is an improvement from last week's "Set Me Free Pt. ...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom . This week three completely diverse songs enter in the top-40 on the "big chart"... " All Of The Girls You Loved Before " - Taylor Swift from the EP The More Lover Chapter (2019) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #12 Official British Singles Chart debut: #11 British Singles Sales debut: #5 As Taylor Swift embarks on her Eras tour, the music phenomenon released four "new" tracks last week, including three reworked songs from her Big Machine days as "Taylor's Version", along with this outtake from the Lover sessions of 2019. The waltz reportedly is about her current boyfriend and British actor Joe Alwyn, and how his experiences with previous girlfriends molded his psyche into the man she fell in love with...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom .  This week, the Hot 100 only sees five new entries, four of them from Miley Cyrus' new album, but there's some nuggets spread around the different charts. " River " - Miley Cyrus from the album Endless Summer Vacation (2023) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #32 Billboard Pop Airplay debut: #27  Billboard Adult Top-40 Airplay debut: #26 Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs debut: #2 Official British Singles chart debut: #16 British Singles Sales debut: #38 The biggest debut on the big chart is Miley's electrodance number from her new album. For me, it's a little busy, trying so hard to get Billboard to place it on their Dance chart (which apparently worked), but it could've used the "less is more" adage. It...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom . Well, this week's Hot 100 was all about the return of Morgan Wallen, with his new album One Thing At A Time putting all 36 of its tracks on the chart, so accounting for more than a third of the list. Of these, ten of them make their debut in the top-40, and none of those are even the best song on the overbloated set. Also, some new fodder from Nicki Minaj comes in the top 20 and the only other act making their debut is K-pop singer J-Hope from BTS with rapper J. Cole which is completely forgettable. So sticking to my rules I'm gonna cover the entries in the top-40 on the Hot 100, then some true nuggets elsewhere (as well as the passable Morgan track)... " Thinkin' Bout Me " - Morgan Wallen from the album One Thing A...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom . This week we have one big debut on the Hot 100 chart from a groundbreaking album.   " TQG " - Karol G & Shakira from the album Mañana Será Bonito (2023) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #7 Official British Singles chart debut: #88     As Colombian star Karol G becomes the first woman to have an all-Spanish language album top the Billboard 200 in America, this collaboration with fellow countrywoman Shakira leaps into the top ten. And it's no wonder - it's a scathing rebuke on their respective high-profile exes who cheated on them, declaring they're much better off since.(Te Quendo Grande stands for "You Are So Great".) It does seem a little much when a "like" on an instagram page constitutes proof o...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom . It's a pretty slow week, with no songs making a debut in the top-40 on the Hot 100, and a lot of trash below that. But here are some gems on that and the other lists.   "Heaven" - Niall Horan from the album The Show (2023)  Billboard Hot 100 debut: #63 Billboard Pop Airplay debut: #27 Billboard Adult Top-40 Airplay debut: #37  Official British Singles chart debut: #18 In an off week songs like this middling ditty from Horan stands out. Perhaps the Styles lull will give this a chance. (Click below to see the rest of the post)

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom .  This week two songs come in strong in their first week entering in the top-40 on Billboard 's Hot 100. "Love You Anyway" - Luke Combs from the album Gettin' Old (2023) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #15 Official British Singles Chart debut: #62 The second preview track of Combs' upcoming fourth album (well, depends on if you count it as a companion to last year's Growin' Up or not) is a powerful and emotional take on being the one in the relationship whose in love with someone who isn't. The subject matter fits the traditional country production in which the fiddle and his vocals truly shine here. This deserves to be another #1 hit for him.  (Click below to see the rest of the post)

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom . This week a "viral" hit from two newcomers rockets into the top-20.    " Boy's A Liar, Pt. 2 " - PinkPantheress & Ice Spice from the single (2023) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #14    This apparently is the new TikTok "thing", the revamp of the song from British singer PinkPantheress from her 2022 EP Take Me Home which adds American rapper Ice Spice. The frenetic beat that seems to borrow from both Miami Bass and K-Pop and have video game noises in the background is custom made for the short-attention span app, and adding the rapper does give a break from the too cutesy for me voice PP puts on it. This is planning to soar on the charts next week, be forewarned.   (Click below to see the rest of the post)...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom . Red America poster boy for Morgan Wallen places three new songs on the Hot 100, including one in the top-40, and The Kid LAROI also slips into the top-40 with a song I hadn't even known came out.    " Last Night " - Morgan Wallen from the  album One Thing At A Time (2023) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #27 The country singer people streamed for days to "own the libs" returns with a trio of songs from his upcoming 36-track third set One Thing At A Time , and this is the one that made the top-40 on the Hot 100. It's not surprising, since its extra-short length and circular production with a heavy hip-hop tinged bass is tailor-made for TikTok. I mean, it's alright, as Morgan sings about a toxic relationship with lots...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature my choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine , as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom . It's another slow week where the highest entry on the Hot 100 is in the lower half, and is dominated by drivel from rapper Trippie Red as well as dog whistle country from HARDY and Morgan Wallen.  " I Wish You Roses " - Kali Uchis from the album Red Moon In Venus (2023) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #81 Due to the unlistenable entries from the aforementioned, this new preview of American/Latin pop singer Uchis' upcoming third full-length shines better than it deserves. Though the dreamy production has a soothing effect, the repetitive lyrics remind me that this, which fine, doesn't hold a candle to her breakthrough "Telepatia". Still, alright date dinner mood music. (Click below to see the rest of the post)

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature my choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine, as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom. This week's big chart had two big-profile entries from female pop stars burning bridges with their unfaithful exes - one of them, Shakira's obliquely-titled "BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53", was featured on last week's roundup since it entered the dance songs chart the week is was released.   " Flowers " - Miley Cyrus from the album Endless Summer Vacation (2023) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #1 Billboard Pop Airplay debut: #16 Billboard Adult Top-40 Airplay debut: #14 Billboard Adult Contemporary Airplay debut: #15  Official British Singles Chart debut: #1 British Singles Airplay debut: #1 British Singles Sales debut: #1   Four years after her separation from ex-husband Avenger Liam Hemsworth, Miley still holds a grudge, and gloriously lets it all out in this dan...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature my choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine, as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom.    " Bloody Mary " - Lady Gaga from the album Born This Way (2011) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #68    The Netflix series Wednesday is the latest "it" show to affect listening habits, but while the show featured the song "Goo Goo Muck" by the Cramps from 1981, causing speculation that the song would experience a viral revival like Stranger Things did to Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill", TikTok users had another thing in mind as they recreated the dance to this 12-year-old track from Lady Gaga, which has since found a new home on radio. This made (rightfully) overshadow her dismal ballad from Top Gun: Maverick .  (Click below to see the rest of the post)

Welcome to 2023, folks, and it's time for me to spotlight my favorites of the songs reaching the various singles charts on Billboard magazine in America, and the Official British Singles Chart in the UK. The post-holiday week is the slowest one of all, but there are some tracks I think you should check out...   " Another Love " - Tom Odell from the album Long Way Down (2013) Billboard Adult Top-40 Airplay debut: #40    This week's charts reflect the period between Christmas and New Year's Day, and holiday music dominates again with little being released. This allows some left-field successes to occur, including this ballad from back in 2012 that has been revived thanks to the TikTok app which people are using the song to soundtrack their clips. I loved this song back then, with its stark emotional immediacy, and it rings just as true now without seeming dated. It was a top ten hit in the UK back then for English singer/songwriter Odell, and I'm glad it...

Good morning on the last day of 2022. It's time to check out my choices of the songs reaching the various singles charts in Billboard magazine in the US as well as the Official British Chart in the UK. It's another slow holiday week, which is fine by me.   " Insomnia " - The Moss from the single (2022) Billboard Alternative Rock Airplay debut: #39    The Hawaiian band that calls Utah their home now deliver the jangle-pop gem that seems plucked from the 80s with Tyke James' echoed vocals over Addison Sharps guitar strums. A nice winter's listen. (Click below to see the rest of the post)

It's time for this week's new music round-up, where I run down my picks of the latest singles on the various charts in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom. It's the week of Hanukkah and Christmas, so of course everything is really slow, but a new album from soul singer SZA at least threw some interest in the mix. All 20 new songs from the record made the Hot 100, and I'll single them out.   " Nobody Gets Me " - SZA from the album SOS (2022) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #10     Although it was "Kill Bill" than won the chart this week, entering the Hot 100 at #3, I much preferred the more exposed indie rock of this song, which still made the top ten.  (Click below to see the rest of the post)

It's time for this week's new music round-up, where I run down my picks of the latest singles on the various charts in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom. We're winding down to the Christmas/Hanukkah holidays, but an "album bomb" by producer Leland Wayne aka Metro Boomin' shook things up, with all fifteen tracks from his new album Heroes & Villains made the Hot 100, though only two of the tracks are ones I'd go back to again.    "Creepin'" - Metro Boomin' with the Weeknd and 21 Savage from the album Heroes & Villains (2022) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #5    Well, the big winner from Metro Boomin's set was this song that has The Weeknd and 21 Savage as "ringers", as well as interpolating the 2000's hit "I Don't Wanna Know" by Mario Winans (which itself took from Enya's "Bodicea") for immediate recognition from the late millennial crowd. The moody atmosphere fits the Weeknd's...

It's time for this week's new music round-up, where I run down my picks of the latest singles on the various charts in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom. It's another "slow" week with the holiday coming on, but here's some nuggets hitting the charts that I think you should check out...   "Holiday Party" - Dan + Shay from the single (2022) Billboard Adult Contemporary Airplay debut: #24    If you're looking for something for the tree-trimming playlist, this inoffensive country offering from the duo is sufficiently family-friendly and also it's a bit over-Auto-tuned it's cute enough to wash some cheer over you. But Dan Smyers' hair frightens me. (Click below to see the rest of the post)

It's time for this week's new music round-up, where I run down my picks of the latest singles on the various charts in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom. It's another "slower week", where the choices are either bad or something I've covered previously, but there still are some nuggets in the charts.   "Tissues" - YUNGBLUD from the album YUNGBLUD (2022) Billboard Rock & Alternative Airplay debut: #47     British alt-rock singer uses the Cure's "Close To Me" sample to anchor this bouncy little goth-dance number (though the beat these days will remind the younguns of Harry Styles' "As It Was" more).    (Click below to see the rest of the post)

Hey folks, I hope everybody in America had a nice Thanksgiving holiday. It's time for this week's new music round-up, where I run down my picks of the latest singles on the various charts in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom.   "Heart Like A Truck" - Lainey Wilson from the album Bell Bottom Country (2022) Billboard Hot 100 debut: #86 Wilson's current top-20 country radio hit finally makes it to the "big" chart. It's always a good thing when a woman is doing well in that current fuckboi-heavy genre, and Lainey shows vulnerability in this world-weary song. (Click below to see the rest of the post)
