Twostepcub's New Music Roundup 1/21/23....

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature my choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine, as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom.

from the album OMG (2023)
Billboard Hot 100 debut: #96

K-Pop newcomers make a big splash in America with this combination of Miami Bass production and SZA-like bedroom R&B vocals that are more genuine that you usually get from the genre.

Hot 100 debut: #100

Country music's Paul Rudd (damn, he looks like a snack at 41) has languished on the country radio chart for 60 weeks before finally making it to the big Billboard list. A sweet waltz about the reality of breaking up, this song is a mature, caring, and grounded and the best performance of his career.

from the album Asphalt Meadows (2022)
Billboard Rock & Alternative Airplay debut: #39
Billboard Alternative Rock Airplay debut: #30
Billboard Adult Album Alternative (Triple-A) Rock Airplay debut: #26

Nerd-rock veterans DCAB return with the second single from their latest album, and the driving beat behind the song whose lyrics only fleetingly name the titular Beatles sergeant, as Ben Gibbard and the boys bid adieu to a love themselves, with a bit more bitterness than Brett's previous.

from the single (2023)
Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay debut: #40

One of the best things to come from American Idol joins forces with the lead singer of Halestorm in this turned-to-eleven cover of the 80's classic from Journey. Watch your speed if you play this in the car.

from the album Cuts & Bruises (2023)
Alternative Rock Airplay debut: #39

The Irish band's second preview for their upcoming sophomore effort is a bouncy, yet musically ominous piece that harkens to the past but still sounds fresh.

Alternative Rock Airplay debut: #40

Hands down the music video of the week to watch, as the pop-punk band revisits their top-40 pop hit from 2006 that dealt with domestic violence and made it so much more powerful. If you can get through this without a tear in your eyes there's something wrong.

from the single (2022)
Triple-A Rock Airplay debut: #38

Ghanian-born Australian artist fuses hip-hop with punk attitude on this breakthrough American radio hit that make me move in my chair. I'm looking forward to a new album from him.

from the single (2022)
Triple-A Rock Airplay debut: #39

After a beautiful debut, this retro-soul group returns with a lush throwback to the 70s that would fit nicely on a breezy Sunday afternoon playlist.

from the single (2023)
Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs debut: #7

Indie Argentine DJ/producer Bizarrap has been slowly building a huge international audience with his "Music Sessions" series, where he pairs his productions with various artists and releasing them with the generic series titles. His "Vol. 52" with Spanish rapper Quevedo became a worldwide hit, reaching the American Hot 100 and the dance/electronic songs top 10. This time he's nabbed real star power, with Colombian songstress Shakira going all out on her ex-partner footballer Gerard Pique, who she found out he was cheating by a notorious jar of Bonne Maman jam. The resulting all-Spanish bop flows through the speakers flawlessly while delivering all the best punchlines.

from the album Drive (2023)
Dance/Electronic Songs debut: #15

Dutch "Trance Music" veteran offers another slice of his upcoming Drive album with this simple but driving "Lithuanian house" excursion ready for the car playlist.

from the single (2023)
Dance/Electronic Songs debut: #34

Another survivor of the early 2000s trance scene, fellow Dutchman Van Buuren teams up with Norwegian DJ Matoma and American singer Teddy Swims for this bop that would go nice right after Tiesto's.

from the album Every Cloud (2023)
British Singles Airplay debut: #17

I loves me some MNEK, and while this one is a little basic, it's still great to hear him wail and ride the groove, and the video is so me.

from the album Prioritise Pleasure (2021)
British Singles Airplay debut: #32

Fans of smart pop music like Sigrid should take a listen to this gem from the Mercury Prize-nominated singer/songwriter.

from the album i/o (2023)
British Singles Sales debut: #19

Progressive rock legend Gabriel returns with a new composition for the first album of new songs in over two decades, and he's sounding just as great as ever with this dreamy track.
