Clay's follow-up " Invisible " was a modest radio hit as well, reaching the top-40 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 in the beginning of 2004. Clay also contributed to the Christmas release American Idol: The Great Holiday Classics , which went to #28 on the Billboard 200 sales tally and sold over a half million copies. Both his songs on there made the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, with his take on " The First Noel " peaking at #9 at the close of 2003.   For the third offering from his debut album Measure Of A Man , Aiken released ...

" Invisible " - Clay Aiken from the album Measure Of A Man (2003) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #37 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 1   Today's song comes from Clay Aiken , who may have came in second on the second season of American Idol , but won the battle of the charts when his double-promoted single "This Is The Night"/"Bridge Over Troubled Water" topped the Hot 100 in Billboard magazine for two weeks over winner Ruben Studdard's " Flying Without Wings " in the summer of 2003. For his crucial follow-up single, Aiken released the soft-pop nugget "Invisible". Written by the powerhouse songwriting team of Desmond Child, Andreas Carlsson, and Chris Braide (the latter having also co-written "This Is The Night"), it was produced by Child. The lyrics are pretty cringy with major stalker-ish vibes, like wishing he was in her room (gag) and admitting he's been "tracing her steps". But for real, the likes of ...

" Dance With My Father " - Luther Vandross from the album Dance With My Father (2003) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 4   Today's song comes from the late R&B vocal master Luther Vandross , who had signed with Clive Davis' J Records and returned to the top-40 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 with the single " Take You Out ". But that was at the expense where the record company tried to remake him into a skirt-chasing loverboy. And selling a million plus copies of the album gave Luther the momentum to be more creative with his second set of the label, Dance With My Father . However its release was marked by the singer suffering a stroke in the spring of 2003 that put him in a coma up to the release date and would trouble him for the rest of his life. The lead single and title track "Dance With My Father", written by Vandross with pop star in his own right Richard Marx. It was recorded as a tribute to his fathe...

" This Is The Night "/" Bridge Over Troubled Water " - Clay Aiken from the album Measure Of A Man (2003) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (two weeks) Weeks in the Top-40: 7 Today's song comes from Clay Aiken , who in the spring of 2003 participated in the second season of the television  singing competition American Idol. Growing up a "church choir kid" in North Carolina, Clay was following the path of becoming a special education teacher when he auditioned for the show as a homely geek with a promising voice. He originally didn't make it past the cattle-call stage in Hollywood, but was voted in by the public as the "wild card" contestant. By the end of the contest, Aiken had come in second to Ruben Studdard. However his fanbase was huge , loving the ugly duckling transformation he went through during the series. During the show, Aiken joined his fellow finalists in releasing the American Idol Season 2: All-American Love Songs , which in...

"God Bless The U.S.A." - American Idol Finalists from the album American Idol Season 2: All-Time Classic American Love Songs (2003) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 2   Today's song comes from the then-massively popular TV singing competition American Idol , who in its first season had already spun off what would be a true superstar with Kelly Clarkson. The second season of the series began on the Fox network in the beginning of 2003, whittling down the tens of thousands that came for the auditions to a bit more than two hundred for the show. By February, semi-finals began which would eventually end up with twelve finalists for the voting part of the series. The first season had produced a companion album that made the top ten on the Billboard 200 sales tally at the close of 2002. Now that the producers knew what a popular brand they had, they decided to capitalize on that by releasing a second-season album. What was odd is that the set would...

" Angel " - Amanda Perez from the album Angel (2003) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #20 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 15   Today's song comes from Amanda Perez , a singer/songwriter who grew up in Indiana, where she was discovered by producer and indie record exec Mike Quinn, who initially signed her to his Powerhouse/Silverstone label, distributed by Universal. There she released her debut album What You At? , as well as her first single " Never ", which nicked both the Hot 100 (#79) and R&B Singles chart (#96) in Billboard magazine, and even got to #10 on the dance/R&B-oriented Rhythmic radio format.. However lack of returns let her shop her album out, which Virgin Records picked up and revamped into the record Angel , which came out in February of 2003. The new title track served as the next single. Written by Perez and again produced by Quinn, the song (which honestly I don't even remember when it came out) has Amanda depressed about the loss o...
