Post 4000! So that's where my time's went....

Image
Wow. I've been busy. 4000 posts in the eight years and change that's I've been at my little corner of the interwebs, with a total of over 150,000 pageviews from anywhere and everywhere in the world, I'm thankful to have this little outlet to share my passions, be it music, news, or any random thing that's on my mind. I have never done ads on this, but have only benefited from the joy in writing it. Thanks for keeping up with my musings, and I hope I've kept you slightly entertained and maybe slipped something new into your brain. Onwards and upwards! (Mind, if you're using an RSS reader like Feedspot and see ads, they aren't from my site and I'm not profiting. If you want to see the real deal, please follow me on da Blogger at twostepcub.blogger.com . Thanks!) Cheers twostepcub

Coming back to reality....do I have to?

Image
Since I was volunteering for the IGRA Rodeo at the Gay Games this weekend, I've been internet (and time)-less for a few days....I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day and my belated Brit Sweeps and Robbed Hit of the Week. Thanks for holding in there!

Bring it to the back...

Image
Well, it's almost time to head on out, I'll be delightfully wifi-less for a week. Thanks to everyone who's come by little corner of the interwebs, I'm still in shock I'm coming up on 150,000 pageviews, and I'm grateful, since I only do this for the love of the music (hence no ads). I'll be back, but until then, this has been my packing anthem all day, and Matt Zarley and Jeb Havens do such a kick-ass job with it. (You can check out all of Matt's covers on his Soundcloud page ).  Peace.

a note...this week's throwbacks postponed till next week...

I'll be bringing back the 6 of the 60s et al next week, since selfish ol' me wants my birthday year post on my birthday. Another Song of the Day, is tomorrow,  and my top-100 of the week coming up soon. Peace out.

Number 1500...

Image
Wow. I'm up to my 1,500th post. I wanted to take a minute to thank anybody who has taken time to drop into my little corner of the internets, it's really appreciated. What started as an outlet for my crazy mind has become a hobby, a release, (sometimes) homework, but almost always fun. Cheers! If you'd like to check back on my Songs of the Day, here's a link to all of them so far... Hugs, 2SC

May the fourth be with you....

Happy Star Wars Day , everyone. back in the day I recorded the movies from VHS tape to audio cassette so I could listen to them in my Walkman walking to school. Han Solo was one of my first crushes. I wanted an Ewok for a pet.

I couldn't resist. As we begin the arduous task ahead on choosing who is going to lose the presidency this year, the reality show called the Republican primary made its "Rock Of No Love" tour stop in Iowa today, in a caucus attended by less people than a normal Bon Jovi concert and just as meaningful. I know we should all hold in great awe the power of a state with less people than Brooklyn and Queens, but after seeing week upon week of media and stumpers falling over themselves to see exactly what combination of rascism, homophobia, and jingoism will win over votes of people who consider Applebee's a "haute cuisine dining experience", I'm pretty much over the whole process. And face it, the Republican party has become nothing but a bunch of grown-up bullies, bent on judging and persecuting others not like them (or in many cases, like them). It does surprise me at times how the gay-marriage card can be thrown still (though not for much longer). There is...

Dear Sarah...DUH!

Since you apparently have no problem throwing around racial, social, ethnic, and sexual stereotypes, without knowing a damn thing about what you're talking about, I don't give two shits about Family Guy putting a fucking reference to your famewhoring presence with your fucking token kid. Who still isn't proven to be yours, and not Bristol's. Actually, to tell the truth, the show is notable for treating someone with Downs to be just as human and fallible as everyone else. You and your whole genetically defunct cess pool of a family can go fuck off back to Alahhhhska.

And here's something I ALWAYS needed to know...

...how to fold a fitted sheet. This guy needs a position. High up.

i'm baaack...

Yes, again, due to my former commitments amost done, and with a little time due to a bout with the flu, I've resolved to keep on a-bloggin'. To everyone who's found this lil' ol place on the web, whether it's for politics, music, or whatever, thanks. And I'd love to hear from ya. Peace.

To A New Decade....

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and a start to a hopefully optimistic new decade. I've resolved to be posting more (as I always promise), but as this truly makes me happy I'm going to concentrate on the things that make me happy. Peace Out.

twostepcubchart - the evolution...

Hey, I'm trying to get my groove back on, and the biggest part of that is my music. Total geek admission: when I was a youngun I would be obsessed with Casey Kasem. With all the craziness around me, every Sunday for four hours there was a reliable pattern of "Shaggy" going through the 40 songs that Billboard magazine computed as the top songs in the country. Back then (the beginning of the 80s) pop, rock, disco, R&B, and country stood side by side, and Casey can go from Joan Jett to the Gap Band to A Flock Of Seagulls to Ronnie Milsap, and this little kid was exposed to all kinds of current music, when radio wasn't so compartmentalized as it is now. At the time, the Billboard chart was compiled by tabulating lists provided to them by radio stations and records stores of what they were playing or selling. Of course it wasn't even close to scientific, and prone to fudgery and speculation, but it produced week after week a chart that progressed like one of those...

story of the day....and the beat goes on

As the majority of Americans seem to be transfixed on where golfers stick their clubs, the juggernaut of political self-serving molasses known as the US Senate is bouncing the healthcare reform dodgeball like a repressed goth girl at a Catholic elementary school. I got to hand it to the politicians and pundits who have been able to convince middle to lower-but-think-they're-middle-class people that it's in their best interests to continue the clusterfuck of a crapshoot that the insurance industry has become. Without a bat of a eyelash, millions of dollars are being passed from the coffers of AIA members to your local Senator. Meanwhile, there is such an uproar over a misguided fear. Fear of losing their insurance? No. More like fear of someone they feel undeserving getting some "freebie". An unemployed person? Well, if it's someone you know, it's "Bobby's going through a tough time, he got laid off". Someone you don't? "Fucker should ...

so where the hell have I been?

Wow. It's been almost a month since my last post. I'm prone at times to a bit of writer's block, but I think between the vitriolic atmosphere politically in my state combined with my commitments to work and rodeo, I couldn't put myself in front of a computer to coherently write something worthwhile, and I thought about why I was doing this to begin with. I started this blog back in 2006, where my life was a lot different than it is now. A lot has changed, both with me and with my world around me. I loved this blog as a sounding board where I didn't have to go into my own facts and foibles, but can journal my thoughts on the stuff I get so obsessed with that I needed an outlet for. And I love doing it, as long as it's something I want to do, not what I'm expected to do. It seems that's been where I've been most of the time lately. And I've been overwhelmed with things I feel obligated to, and as much as it has been dominating my brain, I never wan...

have we learned anything from balloon boy?

Image
The whole "balloon boy" dramedy that's been played out in the last four days or so proves a point - that the average American attention span is corrolated to the resemblance to a tv movie-of-the-week plot. The fact that this nutcase of a family was not only on a reality show, but voted back by public demand, tells you we like to watch the crazee on the teevee. From Paris Hilton to "The Hills" to Sarah Palin, loons will amplify their looniness to become a pastiche to be sold to the masses, while the important issues of the day like health care reform and the war in Afghanistan are too nuanced and complicated to be able to chop up into a five minute spot. It's a shame, but I feel news has finally morphed into total entertainment. (end rant)

The only difference between Sarah Palin and Spencer Pratt is...

He hasn't been elected Governor of Alaska. Yet. Otherwise, both are incurious, manipulative pussies. (addendum, the gun with beer picture says it all. Mouthbreathers.)

deep thought - June 22, 2009...

I don't give a shit what happens to Jon or Kate or their eight .

Photos that rock! Lava rock!

Image
The photo above was taken from the International Space Station, and it's of an erupting volcano in the Kuril Islands between Russia and Japan. The blast cleared away the surrounding clouds as it pushed the atmosphere upward. The photo also shows a ground-hugging plume of light gray ash, probably a mix of hot gas and ash in what volcanologists call a pyroclastic flow , descending from the volcano summit. Pyroclastic flows — deadly to anything or anyone in their paths — are known to be up to 600 degrees and rush across the land at 130 mph. Holy shit. There's a better image of the photo at livescience here . The "bubble" is made by steam. Totally awesome.

Why my dad is the coolest guy on earth......

He used to dance on American Bandstand . You can't beat that. Happy Father's Day, Dad.

anything new happen lately?

It seems so odd that the times where there's so much to talk about, my mind draws a blank trying to blog. Maybe it's my obsession with following the news (and other greater bloggers than myself) that sometimes my brain goes into overload. The astonishing course of events in Iran are escalating day by day , with a sense of urgency not seen since the Tienamen Square protests in China. However, it does seem like the growing numbers throughout the country will not simply be stopped by a police force that is already disheveled. While this is happening, the Obama administration has been scrambling to tackle health care with a mixed message, where between people like Sec. Sebelius hinting at a public option, while porked shills l ike Tom Daschle are pressing for nothing of the sort (thank GOD that fucktard had to drop out). It's scary to know that after starting out strong they may be pussying out claiming that the "public" isn't for it, while poll after poll stat...
