twostepcub's New Albums Roundup: 1/8/23...

Happy Sunday, everyone, it's time for the first new albums roundup of 2023, where I run down my picks of the albums making the sales charts in Billboard magazine in the U.S. and the Official British Charts in the UK. It's the week after Christmas with an extremely light release schedule - only three new albums made their debut on the Billboard 200 with one being a Christmas benefit - and last week when I was off for New Year's had only nine, so I'll combine both weeks and still have only three worth a listen to roll out. You can check out yesterday's New Music singles recap by clicking here.

Billboard 200 debut: #88 (01-07-23)
Choice cut: "Something In The Orange"

The indie country artist who defied the odds by bucking Nashville and going straight to the people has had a great 2023, and this live set from Colorado's famed venue which had them all braving a snowstorm and everything, is a testament to his magnetic presence and powerful storytelling. The fact that it's so raw and not "clean" with the audience so pumped singing along to everything and Bryan's appreciation for their attendance in the cold makes this such a special live document.

Current Albums Sales debut: #73 (12-31-22)
Choice cut: "Imposter Syndrome"

One of the many musical projects of Philly-area artist Anthony Green, Circa Survive combined two EPs of material from the last two years for this powerful set that documents his emerging from a addiction relapse and coming to terms with his stature as a musician. This powerful song and video says it all.

Current Albums Sales debut: #80
Choice cut: "Your Mouth"

This archival release from the legend of experimental rock collects alternate recordings and unreleased tracks from the period of his 1972 albums Waka/Jawaka and The Great Wazoo, when he was recuperating from an accident at a concert. The looseness of the cuts are quite refreshing, as he seems to let go the reins he usually plans for his music, and the result is a fun listen - maybe not essential, but enjoyable and interesting to see his recording process at that time.
