Songoftheday 1/30/23 - I can see you over there just chilling with your girlfriends, can't believe you're by yourself...
"Dance With Me" - 112
from the album Part III (2001)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #39 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2
Today's song comes from the R&B vocal group 112, whose third album had been their biggest so far, spinning off two top ten crossover pop hits on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 with "It's Over Now" and "Peaches & Cream". The third and final single from the record was the album opener (after the intro) "Dance With Me". Written by the group's Daron Jones and Michael Keith with Jason Boyd (who would eventually work with Justin Bieber), the song is a mid-tempo party track mean for the dancefloor, with lyrics having the guys mackin' on the ladies up in there. A radio remix was done with rapper Beanie Sigel whose verse takes the whole first minute of the single. Sigel, whose first two albums The Truth and The Reason both reached #5 on the Billboard 200 sales tally, selling a half a million each, had made the Hot 100 chart twice as a featured guest on Jay-Z singles "Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up)" (#65) and "Change The Game" (#86). The group changes vocals between members seamlessly, and for a basic club record it sported a decent original groove. And the "If you're sexy and you know it clap your hands" stunt is fun. The music video naturally has them at the club doing their thing and its notable the Sigel mentions the "Harlem Shake" long before the atrocity from Baauer...
Dance With Me" became the third top-40 pop hit from Part III in November of 2001 while making it to #20 on their R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On the radio, the song hit #17 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and #6 on the dance-oriented Rhythmic format. Internationally, the song topped the chart in the Flanders half of Belgium for four weeks (and got to #9 on the Wallonia half), and reached #2 in Australia, while peaking at #18 in Romania. 112 will return to the series.

Here's the original version of "Dance With Me" without Sigel, as the Hot 100 only had the 112 credited...
And half of 112 (56?) in concert last year...
Up tomorrow: Rapper emphasizes the females.
