Songoftheday 9/19/22 - Let me tell you what I wanna do, let me show you that I'm feelin' you...

from the album Part III (2001)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 25

Today's song comes from the R&B vocal group 112 (One Twelve), who had landed a top ten crossover hit on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 in the spring of 2001 with "It's Over Now", the lead single from their third album Part III.  Their follow-up single swerved from the cheater-catcher song to the more lascivious "Peaches & Cream". Written by the group (Mike Keith, Daron Jones, Quinnes Parker, and Marvin Scandrick) along with producers Mario Winans and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Jason Boyd, and Courtney Sills, continues the tradition of crooning about female body parts as compared to fruit, in this case the old-timey dessert that nobody really eats anymore, though the peach has certainly revived itself in the emoji lexicon. They certainly promise to "eat like they are starving", and the come-on worked, giving them their biggest hit as a lead artist, and second biggest overall after their featured role on Combs' Notorious B.I.G. tribute #1 "I'll Be Missing You". The music video was a part of the short fad that year to include another song smushed into the video, in this case their followup "Dance With Me" (Missy Elliott did this as well with "Lick Shots" inserted into "Get Ur Freak On")...

"Peaches & Cream" sailed into the top five on the Hot 100 in July of 2001. The song spent two weeks at #2 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart as well. On the radio, the track went to #16 on the Mainstream Top-40 chart and topped the R&B Airplay list for six weeks, as well as on the dance-oriented Rhythmic format. Internationally, the single reached the top-40 in Australia (#24) and the United Kingdom (#32). At the Grammy Awards in 2002, "Peaches & Cream" was nominated for Best Duo/Group R&B Performance, losing out to Destiny's Child for their "Survivor". Both 112 and the album will return to the series.

Here's the radio version of the single, without "Dance With Me" mixed in

Like most of 112's hits, the single had remixes featuring rappers, in this case one with Ludacris and one with P. Diddy. Here's the Diddy version...

And lastly, the reunited group performing for a COVID quarantine-cast in 2020...

Up tomorrow: This country singer has just one shot.
