Songoftheday 8/22/22 - What is this numbers in your pocket? I remember when you used to throw those things away...

from the album Part III (2001)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #6 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's song comes from the R&B vocal group 112 (One Twelve), whose second album Room 112 in 1998 spun off a pair of top-20 pop crossover hits with "Love Me" and "Anywhere". The latter featured rapper Lil' Zane, who brought the group on as a featured artist on his top-40 hit "Callin' Me" in the autumn of 2000. The following year 112 returned with their third effort Part III. The lead single from the record was "It's Over Now",written by bandmates Quinnes "Q" Parker, Daron Jones, Marvin "Slim" Scandrick, and Mike Keith sampling the synth-bassline from the hip-hop classic "White Lines (Don't Do It)" by Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five giving MC Melvin Glover and record exec Sylvia Robinson writing credit. In the song leads Scandrick and Jones dismiss a cheating lover, saying they were always on call when they were away on tour but she sought extracurricular activities nonetheless. The result is a big step up from their previous album, and the production by Jones really works their harmonies together over that groove quiet nicely. In return, the group enjoyed even bigger success...

"It's Over Now" became 112's second top ten pop hit, and first as a lead artist, in March of 2001. The song topped Billboard magazine's R&B Singles chart for two weeks, their sole lead #1 hit. On the radio, the track hit #31 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart, and #30 on the dance-oriented Rhythmic format airplay list. Internationally, the single went to #22 on the British Singles chart and #5 in Canada. The Part III album, released in March as the single was peaking, spent a week at #2 on the Billboard 200 sales tally, while topping the R&B Albums list for a week (their highest rank on each), going on to sell over a million copies. Both 112 and the album will be back to the series.
