Songoftheday 8/13/22 - He was doing 8-0 on the freeway, in the 6 double O bumping Isley...

from the album Can't Take Me Home (2000)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #33 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 4

Today's song comes from pop singer Pink (or P!nk), whose debut album Can't Take Me Home had already spun off a pair of top ten hits with "There You Go" and "Most Girls".  The third and final single from the album was the feisty "You Make Me Sick". Written by Obi Nwobosi, Ainsworth "Brainz Dimilo" Prasad, and Manthony "Anthony President" Tabb, with the two latter producing the track with Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, the song's basic premise has Pink falling for a "bad boy", with the first verse starting out with him drunk driving, then hounding her into the bedroom. It apparently is working, even though the title obviously tells you she shouldn't be doing this. It's kind of juvenile, which is why its no surprise it didn't show on Pink's greatest hits compilation. It's sexual to the point of being provocative, and so obviously written by three men. The production is slick (credit Babyface), and Pink can rap-sing like the best of them, but in the end it's a step down from her first two singles. To his credit, director Dave Meyers eschews following the lyrics closely and plays up the comedy as well as provide some shots of Pink with just enough flower petals as clothing to escape MTV censors...

"You Make Me Sick" became the third top-40 pop hit from Pink's debut in February of 2001. On the radio, the song reached #12 on the Mainstream Top-40 chart and #16 on the dance-oriented Rhythmic format list. The remixes of the track from Hex Hector & Mac Quayle as well as DJ Skribble from MTV helped it climb to #23 on Billboard magazine's Dance Club Play chart. Internationally, the single made the top-40 in Belgium (#8F/#13W), the United Kingdom (#9), New Zealand (#10), Australia (#25), and Ireland (#30). Pink will return to the series real soon.
