Songoftheday 6/1/22 - I never cared too much for love, it was all a bunch of mush that I just did not want...
"Most Girls" - Pink
from the album Can't Take Me Home (2000)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 23
Today's song comes from pop songstress Alecia "P!nk" Moore, whose debut single "There You Go" reached the pop top ten in America in the spring of 2000. Her follow-up to that success was the dance-pop track "Most Girls", produced by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, who co-wrote the song with Damon Thomas. In this one, she asserts that ain't no golddigger, she has her own income, and will only get with a guy for "love". The R&B production is harder that what Babyface is known for, and the marketing and fashion/makeup choices that make Pink ambiguous served in getting her played on radio that is either more pop-leaning or more R&B leaning. The result was that she even surpassed the rank of her debut hit. The MTV-ready music video started right where her last left off, then made her a boxer for some reason after fighting with the landlord and the meter maid man...
"Most Girls" became P!nk's second top ten pop hit in America in November of 2000. The song stalled on Billboard magazine's R&B chart at #67, while topping the dance-oriented Rhythmic format list for a week. The remixes of the track, done by Skribble & Anthony acid as well as the X-Men, helped it place on the Dance Club Play tally at #43. Internationally, the single spent a week at #1 in Australia and made the top ten in Canada (#2), New Zealand (#2),the UK (#5), and Iceland (#8). It also reached the top-40 in Belgium (#12W/#23F), Ireland (#15), and The Netherlands (#24). Both P!nk and the album will be back to the series.
