"Shape Of My Heart" - Backstreet Boys
from the album Black & Blue (2000)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 16

Today's song comes from the Backstreet Boys, whose massively-selling second American album Millennium had spun off four top-40 pop hits with "I Want It That Way", "Larger Than Life", "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely", and "The One".  In the late fall of 2000, the group returned with their next release, Black & Blue. The lead single from the set was "Shape Of My Heart", written by the Swedish team of Lisa Miskovsky and producers Max Martin and Rami Yacoub. Of course as such the lyrics are definitely written by people who learned English as a second (or third) language, as it uses the right words but in a weird kind of order or syntax like "I'll keep you in the dark now let me show you the shape of my heart" (I mean, what exactly does the "shape of my heart" mean?). Also, what is "tragical"? Nevertheless like always the boyband sells the shit of it, and in return their fans granted them yet another top ten pop hit, though it would be their last (so far)...

"Shape Of My Heart" became the Backstreet Boys' sixth and most recent top ten hit on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 pop chart in America in December of 2000. The song spent eight weeks at #2 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, and for to #24 on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format list. Internationally, the single topped the charts in Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand, and Poland, while making the top ten in Germany (#2), Spain (#2), Denmark (#2), the Netherlands (#3), Finland (#3), Romania (#3), the UK (#4), Austria (#4), Canada (#5), Australia (#5), Ireland (#6), Iceland (#6), and Greece (#10). The Black & Blue album, released in November of that year, spent two weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200, and was their second album to sell over a million copies in its first week, going on to sell over eight million copies. At the Grammy Awards in 2002, "Shape Of My Heart" was nominated for Best Duo/Group Pop Vocal Performance, losing out to U2 for "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of". Both the Boys and the album will be back to the series.
