Songoftheday 8/15/22 - So you say your love's about to end, you say you can't take no more she's out the door and your looking for a friend...

"Tell Her" - Lonestar
from the album Lonely Grill (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #39
Weeks in the Top-40: 1

Today's song comes from the band Lonestar, whose third album Lonely Grill, their first after the departure of co-lead singer John Rich, had landed three #1 country radio hits that also crossed over to the pop top-40 with "What About Now", "Smile", and the song that went all the way to #1 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100, "Amazed".  The fifth single from the album (lead single "Saturday Night" surprisingly stiffed) was the midtempo ballad "Tell Her". Written by Craig Wiseman and Kwesi B., the song has lead singer Richie McDonald having a man-to-man talk with a guy whose woman has just left him, asking if they'd expressed how much they love her. The second verse opens up that McDonald had the same thing happen, and since he didn't, she's still gone. The album mix by Dan Huff was punched up for the radio to have the drama "Amazed" did, but at least added some fiddles to the mix...

"Tell Her" became the fourth crossover "pop" hit from Lonely Grill in February of 2001. The song also spent two weeks at #1 on Billboard's Country Singles chart. Internationally, the single got to #29 on the Canadian Country Chart before RPM magazine shut its doors. Lonestar will be back to the series.
