twostepcub's New Music Roundup 12/3/22...

It's time for this week's new music round-up, where I run down my picks of the latest singles on the various charts in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom. It's another "slower week", where the choices are either bad or something I've covered previously, but there still are some nuggets in the charts.

"Tissues" - YUNGBLUD
from the album YUNGBLUD (2022)
Billboard Rock & Alternative Airplay debut: #47

British alt-rock singer uses the Cure's "Close To Me" sample to anchor this bouncy little goth-dance number (though the beat these days will remind the younguns of Harry Styles' "As It Was" more).

"Fallin' With Me" - The Struts
from the single (2022)
Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay debut: #36

Another British rock act that'll make you clap your hands, the Struts bring us more of the chunky guitars and snakelike vocals they're known for.

"Werewolf" - Motionless In White
from the album Scoring The End Of The World (2022)
Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay debut: #37

This second radio single from the gothic metal band's latest album, which they premiered their video on Halloween, appropriately, so I'm not sure of the legs of this timely-wise, but it's still a good listen to break from the other holiday music glutting the market.

"Mary On A Cross" - Ghost
from the EP Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic (2019)
Billboard Alternative Rock Airplay debut: #38

I must be on a dark roll this week, with this single from three years ago that went "viral" on TikTok and now is getting some airplay. I really like the early-80s metal vibes from this, and leave the ambiguous lyrics be.

from the single (2022)
Billboard Alternative Rock Airplay debut: #40

Now for something lighter, the new one from indie-pop singer/songwriter McMahon's project has a lot in common with Coldplay's work, and should please those fans as well.

"Honey" - The Lone Bellow
from the album Love Songs For Losers (2022)
Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay (Triple-A) debut: #40

The alternative country trio return with a brooding song that has a propelling beat that carries its desperate heart on its sleeve.

"Gone (Da Da Da)" - Imanbek & Jay Sean
from the single (2022)
Billboard Dance Airplay debut: #29

The DJ/producer from the central Asian nation of Kazakhstan who won a Grammy and had a top ten pop hit with "Roses" with rapper SAINT Jhn now reaches back to the early 2000s and enlists British singer Jay Sean of "Down" fame for this track that's nice "driving to the club" music.

from the single (2022)
Billboard Dance Airplay debut: #37

As for actually dancing in the club, this banger from Aussie singer VASSY that employs two remix teams that bring their early 2000s house-disco vibe to the party.

"Golden Hour" - JVKE
from the album This Is What ____ Feels Like (Vol. 1-4) (2022)
Billboard Dance Airplay debut: #38

I know I featured the ballad version of this song when it first appeared on the British chart, but I had to spotlight the club transformation from ILLENIUM and Nurko to this ethereal track.

"Believe" - ACRAZE featuring Goodboys
from the single (2022)
Billboard Dance Airplay debut: #40
Billboard Dance & Electronic Songs debut: #47

The Orlando DJ that revived Cherish's "Do It To It" is back with British house music duo Goodboys for this neo-trance bop that sounds great exercising in headphones.

"Strong" - Romy & Fred Again
from the single (2022)
Billboard Dance & Electronic Songs debut: #27

The Australian singer's voice reminds me a little of Tracey Thorn in this club hit, though it could've used being fleshed out a little more. Still, it'll keep your pulse up nicely.

"Escapism" - RAYE featuring 070 Shake
from the album My 21st Century Blues (2023)
British Singles chart debut: #31

After finally emanicipating herself from an rocky relationship with her former major label, Raye strikes out and takes a chance to stray from her dance-pop fare and the result is a textured record with American ingenue 070 Shake that's worth the ride.

"How 2 Dance" - Kaiser Chiefs
from the single (2022)
British Airplay chart debut: #21

The indie rock heroes from Leeds do some British rock-funk in this preview of hopefully a new album.

"All The Way Over" - Sam Ryder
from the album There's Nothing But Space, Man! (2022)
British Airplay chart debut: #36

The United Kingdom's pride at this year's Eurovision proves his voice isn't a one-off with this expressive break-up ballad from his upcoming debut album. His technique is stunningly effective in pulling my heartstrings, and the orchestration comes in at just the right moment before leaving before it's unwelcome.

"Rise Up Singing" - Monks Road Social featuring Paul Weller
from the album Rise Up Singing (2023)
British Sales chart debut: #24

The retro soul collective collaborates with Paul Weller in this lush ballad that is a great callback to Weller's Style Council work.

"Open The Floodgates" - The Smile
from the album A Light For Attracting Attention (2022)
British Sales chart debut: #25

Radiohead side project The Smile hid this gem in the second half of their album, and its synths and Thom Yorke's voice will wash over you in headphones like a waterfall.

"Miracle" - Coulthard
from the single (2022)
British Sales chart debut: #32

Nice neo-house song from British newcomer Coulthard that's short but infectious. Love the synth/bass track on this

That's it for now, I'll be back tomorrow with my picks from the albums making the charts.
