Twostepcub's New Music Roundup 3/11/23...

It's time for my weekly new music roundup, where I feature the big entries on the Hot 100 as well as my personal choices of the songs making the various radio charts in Billboard magazine, as well as on the charts in the United Kingdom. This week we have one big debut on the Hot 100 chart from a groundbreaking album.

Billboard Hot 100 debut: #7
Official British Singles chart debut: #88

As Colombian star Karol G becomes the first woman to have an all-Spanish language album top the Billboard 200 in America, this collaboration with fellow countrywoman Shakira leaps into the top ten. And it's no wonder - it's a scathing rebuke on their respective high-profile exes who cheated on them, declaring they're much better off since.(Te Quendo Grande stands for "You Are So Great".) It does seem a little much when a "like" on an instagram page constitutes proof of wanting to reunite, but maybe she's holding her cards. Either way, after the success of Shakira's similarly ex-bashing "BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53" its a natural pick.

Karol continues the destruction (presumably of ex Anuel AA) with this beautiful nortena ballad about material things including, say, Gucci Towels.

Out of all the tracks on Karol G's album, this one seems to me to have the biggest promise to actually becoming a radio hit. The mark of co-producer Finneas (aka Billie Eilish's brother) figures heavily on the moody electropop sound. It's tied for my favorite track on the disc (the other will be on tomorrow's album recap).

Billboard Rock & Alternative Airplay debut: #32
Billboard Alternative Rock Airplay debut: #30
British Singles Sales debut: #28

After securing a new record deal, the Scottish electro-pop act re-emerges with this bright and flashy track about having hope in romance.

Singer/songwriter Kahan weaves another tale of life in the pandemic times with this nostalgic yet mournful rocker.

Triple-A Rock debut: #38

On the other end of the spectrum, this sunny number from the critics' darling is a nice afternoon listen.

Triple-A Rock debut: #39

While his breakthrough single "Until I Found You" is still on the radio a year and a half after its release, the retro-pop singer is back with this Twin Peaks-ready ballad that sounds so 1962 in a good way.

from the album Heart On My Sleeve (Deluxe Edition) (2023)
Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay debut: #46

The British soulstress interpolates the Shalamar song "This Is For The Lover In You" for this pleasant record that shows off her voice well.

Billboard Dance Airplay debut: #40

Zanders brings us back to 1992 with this house music banger spotlighting her powerful pipes.

from the album That! Feels Good! (2023)
British Singles Airplay debut: #23

By far my pick of the week, British chanteuse Ware delves deeper into disco redux with this lux record that deserves to be played in every damn gay bar in the country.

from the album Hana (2023)
British Singles Airplay debut: #37

Close behind Ware is Sophie, who goes in the Florence/Machine direction with this dramatic winner.

British Singles Sales debut: #34

I can tell this is something when this Swedish entry into that country's national finals for the Eurovision Song Contest is already in the British top-40 before it even won Melodifestivalen (which thankfully it did). But then again, her song "Euphoria" is the most fan-loved winner ever in the competition, and her return is just as epic.

I'll return tomorrow with my picks of the albums making the charts.
