"James Brown Is Dead" was a club hit for the Belgian techno act L.A. Style. Appearing on their self-titled debut album (and only one), the song was written by member Denzil Slemming, who produced it with Wessel van Diepen from the group. On Billboard magazine's Dance Club Play chart, the single peaked at #4 in 1992, while climbing to #59 on the pop Hot 100. It also topped the charts in their native Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain.
