Songoftheday 3/7/23 - Now tell me who's your housekeeper and what you keep in your house?

from the album Word Of Mouf (2001)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #17 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13

Today's song comes from rapper Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, who scored a top-40 crossover hit on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart in the fall of 2001 with "Area Codes".  Ludacris' follow-up was "Rollout (My Business", produced by Tim "Timbaland" Mosley who also wrote it with the rapper. Instead of bragging about his promiscuity with the females, Ludacris is all about the guns and the bling. This chest-puffing can get pretty tired, though there are just genuinely funny lines like "Now tell me who's your housekeeper and what you keep in your house?" and bragging about their Playstation 2. But the strongest thing about the single is Timbaland's original production, which gives a distinctive stomp to the track, and Ludacris rides the flow with such ease that half his words just float right past. Also, like Missy and Busta, he's at the top of his music video game, with this hilarious clip that somehow contorts his image to be almost like a funko character with all head. In return Ludacris broke the top-20 barrier on the Hot 100 as a lead for the first time...

"Rollout" became Ludacris' fifth top-40 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 (and fourth as a lead artist) in February of 2002, while reaching #7 on their R&B Singles chart and #20 on the Rap Songs list. On the radio, the song went to #23 on the Mainstream Top-40 Airplay chart, #7 on the R&B Airplay list, and #3 on the dance-oriented Rhythmic format. Internationally, the single peaked at #20 on the British Singles chart. At the Grammy Awards in 2003, "Rollout" was nominated for Best Male Solo Rap Performance, losing to Nelly for "Hot In Herre".

Both Ludacris and the album will be back to the series.
