Isaac Hayes' "Theme From 'Shaft'" is considered by many including myself to be one of the earliest proto-disco songs ever popular. It reached #1 on the American pop chart and #2 on the R&B list in 1971, years before any "disco" chart existed. It came from the #1 Shaft soundtrack, and won an Oscar, the first for any African-American performer...
