Songoftheday 10/17/18 - Something's missing and I don't know why, I always feel the need to hide my feelings from you

"Bad Girl" - Madonna
from the album Erotica (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #36 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 3

Today's song of the day is from Madonna, whose 1992 Erotica, which accompanied her coffee-table tome Sex, had already scored her a pair of top ten pop hits with "Erotica" and "Deeper and Deeper". The third radio release from the record was the downtempo track "Bad Girl". Written by Madonna with producer and remixer Shep Pettibone, the singer puts on the character of a girl of a certain morals and her troubles with romanric choices. Christopher Walken makes a cameo in the music video as what may be Father Time...

"Bad Girl" became the third top-40 pop hit from Erotica in March of 1993, but at the price of being her lowest-ranked single that made the pop Hot 100 at that time. Internationally, the single reached the top ten in Italy (#3) and Iceland (#3), and the UK (#10), and made the top-40 in Canada (#20), Ireland (#20), Switzerland (#25), Australia (#32), the Netherlands (#34), New Zealand (#35), and Belgium (#40).

The "B-Side" to the "Bad Girl" single in America was a remake of the R&B classic "Fever", originally recorded by blues artist Little Willie John but made famous by Peggy Lee in 1958. Madonna's version had Pettibone transform "Fever" into a house music throwdown, and while it never made the pop chart in the U.S., it topped Billboard magazine's Dance Club Play list for a week. It also climbed to #6 in the UK, #5 in the Netherlands, #6 in Ireland and all the way to #1 in Finland...

Madonna made a special appearance on the Arsenio Hall show live from the Hollywood Bowl complete with a big band to sing "Fever"....

She also included "Fever" in her Girlie Show tour behind the Erotica album...

And finally, Madonna appearing on Saturday Night Live to sing "Bad Girl"...

Up tomorrow: Teen idol is a romantic mechanic, perhaps. Whoa!
