Songoftheday 10/11/18 - I can't read the future but I still want to hold you close right now, I need that from you...

"Angel" - Jon Secada
from the album Jon Secada (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #18 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 17

Today's song of the day comes from Latin pop singer/songwriter Jon Secada, who had stepped away from the shadow of being Gloria Estefan's backup singer to strike out on his own solo career, scoring a couple of big pop hits so far with "Do You Believe In Us" and the top five "Just Another Day". The third release from Jon's self-titled debut album would be the ballad "Angel". Written by the singer with Miguel Morejon and produced by Emilio Estefan, the record would spotlight how powerful Jon's voice was, like the male version of Celine Dion...

"Angel" became Secada's third top-40 pop hit in April of 1993. The record was especially big on "easy listening" radio, spending two weeks at #3 on Billboard magazine's Adult Contemporary format chart.  Internationally, the single went all the way to #4 in Canada, and reached the top-40 in the UK (#23) and the Netherlands (#35).

That's the version he performed at the Festival De Vina in 1993 in Chile..

And here's Jon performing the song at the War Child benefit concert in 1996...

There was an alternate cut of the English version to match the Spanish one...
