Songoftheday 6/14/18 - Nation to nation all the world must come together, face the problems that we see then maybe somehow we can work it out....
"Jam" - Michael Jackson
from the album Dangerous (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #26 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9
Today's song of the day comes from Michael Jackson, whose 1991 album Dangerous had landed him a huge #1 hit with "Black Or White" as well as two top ten follow-ups in "Remember The Time" and "In The Closet". The fourth release from the record would be the first track on the album, "Jam". Written by Michael with producers Teddy Riley and Bruce Swedien along with René Moore (known best for his own R&B act René & Angela), the frenetic and jarring production is a foundation for biting lyrics where Jackson attempts a bit of caustic view of the world, where he needs to "jam" to escape. Like his sister Janet with "Alright", Michael employs rapper Heavy D for some verses, and basketball great Michael Jordan and "Jump" chart-toppers Kris Kross appear in the video...
"Jam" became the fourth top-40 pop hit from Dangerous in August of 1992, though it was his lowest-charting regular single release since before the Off The Wall era. The song did much better on urban radio, spending a week at #3 on Billboard's R&B chart, while the house music remixes helped it rise to #4 on their Dance Club Play list. Internationally, the single reached the top ten in New Zealand (#2), Ireland (#5), Portugal (#6), Italy (#7), France (#8), Greece (#8), and Belgium (#10). It also peaked at #11 in Australia, #12 in the Netherlands, #13 in the UK, and #18 in Germany. In Canada, "Jam" went to #29 for two weeks. On a re-release in 2006, "Jam" spent a week at #1 in Spain, and climbed back up to #22 in Britain.

Michael opened up his tour for Dangerous with "Jam"...
There were many mixes of the song that helped "Jam" rise on the dance chart, including this "Silky 12" Mix" from house music king Steve "Silk" Hurley...
...as well as this more uptempo "jam" from Roger Sanchez...
Michael brought the jam back again for his concert in Brunei in 1996, where he makes quite an entrance...
Jackson was going to include "Jam" in his comeback "This Is It" concert, which was unfortunately stopped from his death; here's the rehearsals shown in the This Is It movie documentary..
And finally, "Jam" in a new remixed form was in Cirque Du Soleil's Immortal tribute to the artist...
