Songoftheday 6/6/18 - So many times I heard your rhymes but you can't touch this, I'm kickin the type of flavor that makes ya say you're too much Kris...
"Warm It Up" - Kris Kross
from the album Totally Krossed Out (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13
Today's song of the day comes from the rap duo of Kris Kross, who landed their first and by far biggest hit with their debut single "Jump" in the spring of 1992 at the ages of 12 and 13. The second single from their Totally Krossed Out album was the swaggering "Warm It Up". Written and produced by their mentor Jermaine Dupri, the record again packed a harder sound that normally would be expected from a pair of pre-teens, with adults jamming in the back to show this isn't supposed to be a "kiddie thang", as Chris Kelly and Chris Smith play no fools...
"Warm It Up" became Kris Kross' second top-40 pop hit in August of 1992. The record spent two weeks at #3 on Billboard's R&B chart, while the remixes helped it land at #23 on their Dance Club Play tally. Internationally, the single went all the way to #3 in New Zealand, and reached the top-40 in the UK (#14), Ireland (#16), the Netherlands (#20), Australia (#21), Belgium (#21), Germany (#22), Sweden (#34), and Switzerland (#34). Up in Canada, it just missed that level, spending three weeks at #44.
The third release from their debut album, the more juvenile-themed "I Missed The Bus", climbed to a respectable #29 on the R&B chart, but stopped at #63 on the pop Hot 100 (it did hit #28 in New Zealand). That was followed by "It's A Shame", which made it to #55 on the R&B list while missing the pop chart in America, though the record went to #31 in the UK.
