Songoftheday 6/13/18 - I saw you dancing out the ocean running fast along the sand, a spirit born of earth and water fire flying from your hands...
"The One" - Elton John
from the album The One (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 18
Today's song of the day comes from Elton John, who had landed himself a #1 hit single with his duet cover of his 1974 #2 hit "Don't Let The Sun Come Down On Me" with George Michael at the start of 1991. A year later, Elton returned with his first studio album of the 1990s, The One. The grand title track, written by the singer with Bernie Taupin and produced by Chris Thomas, was another perfectly made for wedding reception love songs that continued his lucky streak...
"The One" returned Elton to the American pop top ten in September of 1992, four years since his last solo single that did it, "I Don't Want To Go On With You Like That" in 1988. The song spent six weeks at #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. Internationally, the single topped the chart in Canada for two weeks, and reached the top ten in France (#3), Norway (#3), Switzerland (#5), Ireland (#8), and the UK (#10). He also made the top 20 in Austria (#11), the Netherlands (#14), Australia (#15), and Germany (#20). "The One" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal, which went to Eric Clapton for "Tears In Heaven".

Here's Elton appearing on the MTV Video Music Awards live in 1992...
And again live in concert in 1994...
...a year later in Rio...
Fast Forward to a show in Ephesus, Turkey in 2001...
And finally, Elton at the Madison Square Garden in 2000...
Up tomorrow: the King of Pop loosens up a little.
