Songoftheday 4/7/20 - I want to get into motion a better devotion, so I can make it through the night...

"Sweet Dreams" - La Bouche
from the album Sweet Dreams (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 25

Today's song of the day comes from the German-based Eurodance group La Bouche, who landed their American debut and biggest pop hit here "Be My Lover" at the start of 1996. That song was actually the second release in Europe, and for its follow-up, the act went back to their debut European single and album title track "Sweet Dreams". Written by the group's Melanie Thornton along with Mehmet Sönmez, producer Amir Saraf, and Robert Haynes (who she sang with in the duo Le Click), the song was a club favorite that again radio became a big fan of...

"Sweet Dreams" became La Bouche's second (and final official) top-40 pop hit in June of 1996. The song also climbed to #31 on Billboard magazine's Adult Top-40 format chart, while the remixes of the song helped it rise to #3 on their Dance Club Play chart. As the lead single from the group, "Sweet Dreams" spent four weeks at #1 in Italy (in 1994), and made the top ten in Austria (#3), Switzerland (5), Spain (#6), Australia (#8), and Germany (#8). It also reached the top-40 in Sweden (#13), Finland (#15), Iceland (#15), Ireland (#16), Canada (#28), The Netherlands (#31), France (#32), and New Zealand (#34). Surprisingly, the single just missed the top-40 in the UK, peaking at #44.
