Disco Dessert 4/6/20 - "Poinciana" from Gato Barbieri...

"Poinciana" was a clubgoers favorite from Argentine saxophone player Gato Barbieri. Appearing on his 1978 album Tropico, it's a remake of a song written by Nat Simon and Buddy Bernier that derived from a Cuban folk song first made popular by swing king Glenn Miller and his Orchestra in 1943. Although the song never made Billboard magazine's Disco chart, the album was a success for an instrumental jazz creation, rising to #96 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart.
