"Overnight Sensation" was a club hit for singer Jerry Knight, who formerly was a member of Ray Parker Jr.'s band Raydio. Appearing on his debut solo album Jerry Knight, the song was written by Knight and produced by David Kershenbaum (Tracy Chapman, Joe Jackson). On Billboard magazine's Disco Top 100 chart, it went to #18 in 1980.
