"Soul Makossa" was a hit record and one of the first songs in the "disco" genre, recorded by Cameroonian sax player Manu Dibango. Appearing on his album Soul Makossa, it was released in 1972, way too long before any sort of disco chart, but the record climbed to #35 on the American pop chart and #21 on the R&B chart in Billboard magazine.
