twostepcub's music chart for June 22, 2012...
Hey folks, it's time for my top-100 tunes for the week. This week Carly Rae Jepsen stays at the #1 spot for a second week, while Nicki Minaj (pictured above) moves up in the top-10. Former big hits by David Guetta, Taylor Swift, Matt Nathanson, Beyonce, Miranda Lambert, Jack Back, and Avicii drop off the list, while singles by Kenny Chesney, Ralphi Rosario, and Ed Sheeran make the biggest jumps (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red). Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artist names to go to their official website. Happy Pride, New York City!

There are a whopping fifteen new entries on my chart this week (highlighted in green), and here they are, along with a little about the artist, with links to their previous hits highlighted in orange. And away we go....
(Click below for the rest of the post)
The highest debut this week belongs to Katy Perry, with the second single pulled from the reissued Complete Confection version of her Teenage Dream album, which now has put nine songs on my list. It's hard to believe that first single "California Gurls" is over two years old now! The new song, "Wide Awake", was released to promote the upcoming concert documentary Katy Perry: Part Of Me, and it's already a top-5 pop hit in the US, and the video harkens back to the CG Candyland clip...
Dutch singer Eva Simons had an international hit last year with the dance collaboration with DJ Afrojack on "Take Over Control", and she's back as a lead artist on her own top-5 club hit that rocks, "I Don't Like You"...
The iconic rock female voice of the early 90's, Alanis Morissette had the biggest selling album of the 90s with Jagged Little Pill, which contained the classic "fuck you" song, "You Oughta Know". Seventeen years later, she's mellowed a bit, but her music is just as delightfully cerebral. Her new CD, Havoc And Bright Lights, is expected to be released at the end of August, and the first single from the set is "Guardian"....
Chicago rock group Chevelle had their first big hit back in 2003 with their #1 rock hit "Send The Pain Below". They now have their second hit on my list from their latest album, the title track "Hats Off To The Bull"...
The Queen's Jubillee was celebrated three weekends ago, and the benefit record assembled for that was done by Take That lead singer Gary Barlow. Barlow put together the "Commonwealth Orchestra" from artists both famous and not from around the former British Empire, including a tambourine take from Prince Harry, as well as the "Military Wives Choir", which had the #1 UK Christmas hit of last year with "Wherever You Are". In the process, he's had his first lead-artist #1 hit outside his band since 1997's "Love Won't Wait". I'd still take him over Robbie Williams anyday (outside of musically), and his #1 hit is "Sing"...
Swedish DJ Avicii has so far had the Global Dance hit of 2012, "Levels", featuring a sample of the late R&B great Etta James. For his followup, he enlists the aid of Swedish singer Salem Al Fakir, for a song that's made the top-40 in the UK pop and the US dance charts, as well as top-3 Global Dance. Here's "Silhouettes"...
American Idol eighth-season champ Kris Allen scored a platinum single in 2009 with "Live Like We're Dying", which made the pop top-20. He released his second post-win album last month, and the first single from Thank You Camellia is called "The Vision Of Love"...
UK quartet Rudimental scored a big #1 with their first charting single in the UK with a drum & bass track featuring singer John Newman of "Feel The Love"...
The big movie of the 2012 Memorial Day weekend was Men In Black 3, and while the first two installments of the film franchise had theme songs done by star Will Smith, including the initial #1 hit "Men In Black", this one recruits the Cuban-American rapper you can not avoid, Pitbull, for the not-the-Back-To-The-Future-song "Back In Time"...
Another American Idol alum debuts on my list, this time season 10's third-place finisher Haley Reinhart, who has her first adult-pop hit with "Free" (which is different from the Graffiti6 song at #51)...
British/Kosovan singer Rita Ora now has two hits on my list, as her UK hit "R.I.P." gets joined by a song that's climbing the US dance chart, reaching the top-10 this week. Here's "How We Do (Party)"...
Miami rapper Flo Rida is still riding high on the top-5 hit "Wild Ones", and now comes on with a song that's hitting all over Europe, "Whistle"...
Former Girls Aloud singer and X-Factor UK mentor Cheryl Cole had one of the biggest singles in the world in 2009 that sadly didn't cross over to the States with "Fight For This Love". She's back, without the ex-hubby surname Cole, as just Cheryl, with her British #1 hit, "Call My Name"...
British singer/songwriter Paloma Faith had a critically acclaimed debut album, Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful? in 2009, which had six charting singles, but none higher than the #15 "New York". (I definitely recommend going and checking that one out.) Her sophomore disc, Fall To Grace, has so far done better, becoming a #2 album and giving her a top-10 hit with "Picking Up The Pieces"...
And the final debut belongs to another British act, this time four-piece boy-rock band Lawson, who score a top-5 UK pop hit with "When She Was Mine"...
To everyone heading to New York, stay safe and enjoy the beautiful weekend!
