Country Sweep: June 16th, 2012...

Now its time for a recap of the songs hitting the Billboard country chart this week...

The highest debut belongs to the reformed retro-country group the Mavericks, who were one of the most critically lauded (and personal favorite) groups of the 90s. They have five top-40 country hits, though they never even got close to a top-10 hit (thought they had a top-4 British pop hit with "Dance The Night Away"). Their latest comes in at #54, and it's "Born To Be Blue"..

American Idol contestant Bucky Covington debuts at #59 with "I Wanna Be That Feeling"...

and finally at #60, Lionel Richie's Tuskegee album of covers pairing him with country artists generates another single on the country charts for him, as "Deep River Woman" (a top-10 country hit with Alabama in the 80s gets revived with help from four-person harmony powerhouse group Little Big Town....

(Sorry for the crappy video here's a link to listen in Rhapsody) and here's a audio clip...

I'm glad that the Mavericks found their way back together. Raul's been making some cool music, but there is some serious magic when the four of those guys get together.
