Brit Sweep, June 17, 2012...

Well it's the end of the weekend, hope all the dads had a great Father's Day, and now time for a sampling of the new songs just hitting the British Singles chart this week.

Debuting right at #1 is singer Cheryl Cole, who was part of the massive British girl-group Girls Aloud before trekking off on her own, with two #1 albums in England, as well as two previous charttopping singles, including the worldwide smash "Fight For This Love" in 2009. She also was a mentor/judge on the British version of Simon Cowell's X Factor for three seasons, and was ready to jump across the pond to be a part of the American debut of the show, but was unfortunately cut and later refused to return to the English version. She's since dropped the "Cole" (it was her married name from her philandering ex-hubby), and her first single from her upcoming album is "Call My Name"...

American singer/songwriter Trey Songz' Top-5 R&B hit "Heart Attack" crosses over the Atlantic at #28...

The Biebs comes on at #30 with the fourth song from the upcoming Believe, "As Long As You Love Me" with rapper Big Sean...

The next entry is one of four new songs from the UK version of The Voice. While winner Leanne Mitchell's version of "Run To You" missed the top-40 last week, this week sees runner-up Tyler James make the grade at #39 with his take on Steve Winwood's "Higher Love", while Mitchell is nowhere to be seen on the entire top-100, How does that happen? Did they without selling the other tracks till the following week? I'm puzzled.

Scottish singer Amy Macdonald's third album, Life In A Beautiful Light, just entered the British albums chart at #2, and the first single from it, "Slow It Down", comes in at #45...

Londoner Max Milner didn't even make the finals on the Voice UK, but his performance of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'" is the second-highest Voice-related single this week at #63 a carbon copy of American Idol's Philip Phillips, no?

Photogenic Welsh duo Lilygreen & Maguire have their first hit at # 66 with "Ain't Love Crazy"...

The Next Voice contestant at #69 is a real Lady. Bo Bruce's father, the Earl Of Cardigan, is a peer and heir of a Marquessship. Her recording of Kate Bush's classic "Running Up That Hill" represents her time on the show as the co-runner-up with Tyler James, even though this wasn't one of her final show performances...

Australian electro-dubstep act Knife Party come in at #83 with a cut off their Rage Valley EP, "Bonfire"....

Usher's R&B single "Lemme See" sneaks on to the chart at #90...

And finally, fourth-place finisher on the Voice UK, Vince Kidd's 'audition' song, Madonna's "Like A Virgin", drops in at #97...
