Songoftheday 6/3/12 - I hate to tell you, but I got a bit of bad news, I don't love you no more...
Cheri - "Murphy's Law"
from the album Cheri (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #39 (two weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 2
Today's Song of the Day is by dance/R&B duo Cheri, who had a big club single in 1982 with "Murphy's Law". Starting out in Montreal, Canada, the group was formed by American Rosalind Hunt (daughter of Geraldine Hunt, who just had a dance hit of her own a couple years back with "Can't Fake The Feeling") and Canadian Lyn Cullener.
"Murphy's Law" was co-written by Geraldine Hunt, and spent three weeks atop the club chart, while making the top-5 on the R&B chart. It also marked the end of the small spurt of records sporting "chipmunk" vocals...
After "Murphy's Law", Cullener left to be replaced by Amy Roslyn, and the duo scored one more R&B top-40 hit with "Working Girl".
