Brit Sweep: June 10, 2012...
Hey folks, it's the end of the weekend, and time to cap off the new music from across the pond on the British Charts this week..
Since Gary Barlow's "Sing" rises to the #1 spot, rapper Flo Rida has to settle with #2 with "Whistle". Now can we have a moratorium on "whistling" in songs for a bit? Please?
It's a good week for R&B and hip hop in Britain, as Usher comes in at #5 with "Scream", or "DJ Got Us Falling In Love the sequel"...
and British DJ Fresh with one of my favorite rap artists, Dizzee Rascal debut a rung under that with "The Power"...
Canadian Nelly Furtado is back at #14 with "Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)", its kind of corny to contrast her way model-like makeover...
London rapper Dot Rotten comes in at #15 with "Overload" which samples Robert Miles' "Children"....
Justin Bieber gets another preview single on the chart with "All Around The World" featuring Ludacris. I admit out of all the new music he's put out this year, it's the most adult and enjoyable...
Former UK Factor contestant Aiden Grimshaw (he came in ninth) debuts at #35 with the drum & bass track "Is This Love". I kind of like this, it's so detached from the usual reality singing show fare, though close to Alex Clare a bit, but more raw...
Speaking of reality shows, the actual winner of the Voice UK, Leanne Mitchell, misses the top-40 of the chart at #45 with her first single, a cover of Whitney Houston's "Run To You". It's not a bad version, and thankfully not a total karaoke version of it (but close)...
Electrohouse outfit Knife Party get their Nitzer Ebb-influenced party on with "Rage Valley" at #71..
and finally, coming in at #100 is teen rocker Jake Bugg with "Lightning Bolt"..
Cheers, All!
