Songoftheday 6/8/12 - When i see you on the street my whole body gets weak...
Stevie Wonder - "Do I Do"
from the album Stevie Wonder's Original Musiquarium 1 (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13 (three weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 9
Today's Song of the Day is the second hit off of Stevie Wonder's Musiquarium album, and one of four new songs on the greatest hits set. On the LP, the funky, positive song lasts for over ten minutes, and includes a trumpet solo by jazz great Dizzy Gillespie, who was 64 at the time. That solo and a rap break by Wonder were removed for the shortened single version that hit radio in 1982.
The song also made the top of the dance chart, as well as the runner-up spot on the R&B list, and top-40 on the adult-contemporary (soft-rock) chart. It crossed over to England where it made the top-10 singles there as well.
Later on the song would be remade by many jazz artists, including Philly jazz performer Gerald Veasley, and remains Wonder's most joyful song of the 80s...
