Disco Dessert 6/7/20 - "We Are Family" from Sister Sledge...

"We Are Family" was a massive club and radio hit for the female sibling vocal group Sister Sledge. Appearing on their album We Are Family, the song was written and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of the band Chic. On Billboard's National Disco Action Top-40 chart, it was listed along with "He's The Greatest Dancer" as both sides of the 12" vinyl single. They spent two weeks at #1 there in 1979, as well as making it to #2 on the pop Hot 100 and #1 and their R&B chart. The classic has become an anthem for gay pride celebrations all around the world, and even though its mention seems cliche at first, I implore you to truly listen to the song in all its joyous glory and pay attention to the timeless lyrics about kinship and love. Never gets old.

In 1993, the song was remixed by the team of Sure is Pure, and returned to the Dance chart at #31, while in the UK the single even outdid its original peak of #8 in 1979, going all the way to #5...

And for a bonus, here's the extended disco version as heard in the clubs...
