The Mexican" was a remake of an early
1970s proto-disco hit by the band Babe Ruth which was released by the Canadian disco act Bombers. Appearing on their 1978 debut album
Bombers, this version never made the American pop or dance chart (they would go on to have success with "
Everybody Get Dancin" which climbed to #3), but
another cover from DJ Jellybean Benitez would end up going to #1 on the dance chart in 1984.
