twostepcub's music chart for August 24, 2012...
Hey folks, it's time for my top-100 tunes for the week. This week Carly Rae Jepsen finally relinquishes the top spot to Kylie Minogue, while Calvin Harris and Ne-Yo (pictured above) hang on in the top-10. The biggest jumps are made by Green Day, No Doubt, and Little Big Town (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red), while former big hits by the Eli Young Band and Katharine McPhee drop out. There are eleven new songs on my chart this week (highlighted in green), and here they are, along with a little about the artists, with links to their previous hits on video in purple...
(Click below to read the rest of the post)
This week's highest debut belongs to the Killers, who are back after a four-year break with a new album coming this September. The band now has eight top-10 modern rock singles to their name, including the charttopping "When You Were Young" in 2006. The new single is "Runaways"...
The Scissor Sisters are still climbing in my top-40 with "Only The Horses", but I can't deny their latest viral hit, which is already in the top-5 on the dance chart, "Let's Have A Kiki"...
80s queen and GLBT ally to die for Cyndi Lauper is about to open a musical she wrote with Harvey Fierstein, Kinky Boots. Her version of its "Sex Is In The Heel" is crashing the dance charts, where she's been at #1 three times, including her 1984 classic "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"...
Country firebrand Miranda Lambert is back with the third single from her excellent Four The Record album, "Fastest Girl In Town". Her last single, "Over You", was her third country charttopper...
Another award-winning country singer, Carrie Underwood, returns with the title track from her Blown Away CD.She's scored 11 #1 country hits since she won American Idol, including her last single, "Good Girl"...
Scottish DJ Calvin Harris is still hanging in the top-10 with "Let's Go", and he's also debuting with a track featuring British rapper/singer Example on "We'll Be Coming Back"...
Australian sister duo NERVO had a US top-10 dance hit (and hit on my chart) last year with "We're All No One", and they follow it up with the jubilant "You're Gonna Love Again"...
British "grime" artist Wiley has had two top-10 hits already in the UK, including the #8 "Never Be Your Woman" in 2010 which introduced the country to the amazing Emeli Sande, and he returns with a charttopping UK hit that featured singer Ms. D, "Heatwave"...
Madonna is touring the world (and enraging a big chunk of it), and her latest, "Turn Up The Radio" will most likely extend her streak of #1 dance hits reaching all the way back to 1983's "Holiday"...
Canadian DJ deadmau5 was born in Niagara Falls, and has claimed #1 on the Dance Airplay chart three times, lastly with "Ghosts N Stuff" in 2009. He's back with a track featuring vocals by Chris James, who he discovered from Twitter, called "The Veldt"..
Finally, singer/songwriter Asaf Avidan is from Jerusalem, Israel, and he and his band the Mojos are here with a song that they currently are topping the charts in Germany with, "One Day/Reckoning Song"..
That's it for this week...stay tuned tomorrow for my "chart sweeps" of the newest music making the charts at Billboard magazine. Cheers!
