Album Sweep: August 11, 2012 - Part Two...

Hey everyone, it's time for part two of this week's "Album Sweep", where I sample the records making their debut on this week's top-200 albums chart in Billboard magazine.

Coming in at #105 is a Starbucks exclusive compilation of 60s West Coast flower power rock titled Sunset Strip to Haight Ashbury: The California Scene in the '60s. It includes the expected bands like Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, and The Mamas And The Papas, as well as some obscure finds like the Electric Prunes and It's a Beautiful Day.

Rapper 8Ball arrives at #116 with his latest solo set, Life's Quest...(NSFW)

The official soundtrack to the Opening of the London Games, Isles Of Wonder: Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, debuts at #136. It has tracks from the Arctic Monkeys, Underworld, Mike Oldfield, and David Bowie, along with Emeli Sande's astonishingly beautiful and criminally edited out (by fackers NBC) "Abide With Me"...

Roberto Tapia has the #1 Latin album in the US, and El Muchacho debuts on the big chart at #156...

Scottish DJ/producer Hudson Mohawke and artist Lunice collaborated as TNGHT for an electronica EP that comes in at #180...

Brooklyn indie-rockers the Antlers enter at #186 with their Undersea EP...

Tony Testa's Murda Machine was released at the end of 2011, but it finally sells enough for the top-200 at #193...it's a different choice for the normal "baller" track to have the reality of prison be the setting for the video clip....(NSFW)

Finally, rapper Kokane sneaks into the list at #196 with another set that was released in 2011, The Legend Continues...(NSFW)

That's it for part two, I would recommend the Olympic Soundtrack, the Haight-Asbury comp, and TNGHT sets.... stay tuned, later tonight I'll bring you this week's "Robbed Hit"..
