Album Sweep: August 25, 2012 - Part Two...
Hey folks, it's time for part two of this week's "Album Sweep" of the newest records selling in America per Billboard magazine's Top 200 Albums chart. You can find part one of this week's sweep here.
Coming in at #125 is the legendary "Man In Black", Johnny Cash, with what seems to be the 500th compilation of his work on CD so far. Capitalizing on the Number Ones label that has sold successfully for acts like Michael Jackson, the Beatles, and most recently the Bee Gees, this set brings you 19 songs covering Cash's career, although it certainly takes the title lightly, since he only had 14 #1 hits on Billboard's country chart (he never scored a pop #1). All of them are here, from 1956's "Walk The Line" to his 1985 collaboration with the Highwaymen, "Highwayman". The other five include four #2 charting singles and another top-10 hit, so far the casual or first-time Cash fans, this does give a good summary of his most successful hits. However with a man with such a bountiful quarry of great music, you're better to dig deeper (though three other Cash CD were released at the same time, focusing on his duets, gospel work, and remakes).

Coming in at #138 is the Christian pop act David and Nicole Binion, with the compilation of their work, Standing...
British singer/songwriter Lianne La Havas enters at #142 with an album that was a top-5 success in her native country, and has been touring with Bon Iver in the US. It's Is Your Love Big Enough?, and I'm diggin' it something fierce...
Miami alt-hiphop group !Mayday! debut at #153 with their EP Thrift Store Halos.
Blues-rock act Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band are from Indianapolis, and their Between The Ditches album slides in at #169...
Marcus Miller is a jazz bassist who has worked extensively with the likes of Miles Davis, David Sanborn, and Luther Vandross. His latest solo record, Renaissance, is in at #170...
And rounding it out at #200 is another Man-In-Black-related CD, We Walk The Line: a Celebration of the Music Of Johnny Cash. It's a live set with 20 of Cash's songs reinterpreted by an allstar backing band and artists like Ronnie Dunn, Lucinda Williams, Sheryl Crow, and more. It's also a fundraiser for "Charley's Fund" fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Well, that's it for this second half, there's a lot of good music here, but my faves of the bunch are the Cash tribute, Lianna La Havas, and Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. But don't count out the Cash Number Ones CD if you don't own anything by him (and it's only 9.99 over at Amazon). Stay tuned, later tonight I'll bring you this week's Robbed Hit. Cheers!
