Album Sweep: August 18, 2012 - Part Two...
Hey folks, it's time for part two of this week's "album sweep", where I bring you a sample of the new music selling across the USA, per Billboard magazine's Top 200 albums chart.
Georgia-based southern metal band Jackyl's first self-titled album has sold over a million copies, and they've made the top-10 on the mainstream rock chart twice, with "Push Comes To Shove" peaking at #7 in 1994. They're back with their seventh album, Best In Show, which contains a covers of Dr Hook's "Cover Of The Rolling Stone" and Run-DMC's "It's Tricky", at #84...

Indie-rock group Aer debut at #85 with their The Bright Side album...sounds like mellow Sublime-like music..
California ska-punk outfit Reel Big Fish are best known for their 1996 top-10 modern rock hit "Sell Out", and they return with their seventh studio album Candy Coated Fury, as good as ever at #91...
Singer/songwriter Mat Kearney has his latest iTunes Sessions EP come in at #103, with live in the studio arrangements of seven songs, including his last two singles, "Hey Mama" and "Ships In The Night" (the latter with guest Ingrid Michaelson)...
Husband and wife duo got their big break on CMT's Can You Duet? program, where they came in third. Their debut single, "Cheater, Cheater" made the top-30 on the country chart in 2008. Their third album, His and Hers arrives at #112, along with their powerful new single, "When I'm Gone"...
Veteran Vermont jam rock group Phish scored two top-10 albums in the second half of the 90s, and their song "Backwards Towards The Number Line" was a top-10 Triple-A rock (hipster-rock) hit in 2009. The band is at #121 this week with a live set from their shows at the University of Illinois on Chicago '94....
Americana artists Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent combine their talents as Shovels and Rope, and their O' Be Joyful album comes in at #123...
Christian pop collective Jesus Culture from California pop in at #132 with Emerging Voices...
I Am An Elvis Fan: A Collection Of Elvis Songs Chosen By The Fans is exactly what the title implies, with 21 tracks from the "King" from all aspects of his career, at #137...
That wraps it up for this week, out of this set I would recommend the Joey + Rory, Reel Big Fish, and Mat Kearney albums.
Stay tuned later tonight for Brit Sweep, with the latest making the grade across the Atlantic, in time for the closing of the London Olympics. Cheers!
