Brit Sweep: August 12, 2012...

Hey guys, its Sunday night, and time for Brit Sweep, where I bring you the latest singles selling in the UK this week, per the Official Charts Company. This week rapper Wiley spends a second week at  the top with "Heatwave" featuring Ms. D.

The highest debut this week is by the British pop/rock quartet Lawson, who go one notch better than their debut single "When She Was Mine" as "Taking Over Me" is at #3...

Dubstep artist Redlight scored a top-20 hit earlier this year with the Tori Amos-cribbing "Get Out Of My Head", and now places his latest at #5, "Lost In Your Love"..

British rapper Dizzee Rascal is one of my favorite current hip-hop artists, and his last album, Tongue N Cheek is a classic record you must hear. He was rewarded with four #1 UK hits on that CD, including "Holiday" and "Bonkers", the latter which figured into the Olympic Opening Ceremony (and causes it to come back to #31 on the sales chart). Dizzee recorded another special track for the London Games, which arrives at #22, "Scream", featuring singer Pepper...

Icelandic rockers Of Monsters And Men's "Little Talks" finally sees a release in Great Britain, and the single debuts at #28..

London-based "grime" artist Maxsta comes in at #67 with "I Wanna Rock" which interpolates the rap classic "It Takes Two" by Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock...

The iconic British pop/electronica duo Pet Shop Boys preview their upcoming album Elysium with the song "Winner" at #86, which instead of using the expected Olympic theme, comes with an inspirational video that is the most real and positive expression of the transgender community by a mainstream act that I've seen, and it makes me extra happy...

and lastly at #98 is Swedish House Mafia/Avicii protege Otto Knows, which "Million Voices"..

That is all for now, stay tuned tomorrow for part two of this weeks American "Album Sweep", and Tuesday's rundown of the latest in France and Germany in "French Sweep" and "Kraut Sweep". Cheers!
