Songoftheday 8/10/12 - I couldn't believe the night you walked away, left me alone to play a fool's charade...

Tane Cain - "Holdin' On"
from the album Tane Cain (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #37 (three weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 3

Today's Song of the Day is by the California-born rock singer and actress Tane (McClure) Cain. She was born the daughter of actor Doug McClure (no, not the Simpsons character, that's Troy McClure) who was on a load of TV shows and movies from the late 50s to the 70s. After being raised in Hawaii and California, and small singing stints, Tane met and married Babys keyboardist Jonathan Cain, who would then join the white-hot arena rock band Journey in 1980. And nothin' like a famous dad and a hubby in the biz to nab yourself a record contract.  But her first album, a Benatar-esque self-titled rock album, came through with a top-40 hit in "Holdin' On", an enjoyable pop-rock song...

The album also was a minor hit, making the LP chart for ten weeks. She also had a track on the Terminator soundtrack as "Tahnee Cain and Tryanglz". Tane and Jonathan would split in 1989, and taking back her maiden name.

Tane continued to sing and act, and was most recently well known for appearing as the moneyed cougar on Toby Keith's video for "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This"..

Up Tomorrow: Midler's collaborator does some Shakin' Stevens.

It's crazy. I don't even remember the Barry Manilow track, but I know the words to this one, and it only placed one spot higher. Unfortunately, this could have been sung by almost anyone and been a hit.

Oh definitely. It sooo pays to be the wife of Jon Cain. I actually have the whole CD (it was only 6.99 on amazon, so WTH) it's really Benatar-lite. But i still dig the holdin' on song.
