Rock Sweep: August 11, 2012...
Hey guys, thanks again for dropping by, it's time for part two of this week's "Chart Sweeps" of Billboard magazine's weekly music charts. This time out we'll sample the tracks hitting rock radio.
On the Rock Songs list, Linkin Park's "Burn It Down" returns for an eleventh non-consecutive week at #1...
The top debut belongs to rockers Saving Abel, who have had two top-10 hits on the Rock Songs list with "Stupid Girl (Only In Hollywood)" and "The Sex Is Good". The Mississippi band is back at #48 with "Bringing Down The Giant"...
Coming in at #49 is singer/songwriter/possible Katy Perry boinker John Mayer, with the second single from his Born And Raised album, after top-40 rock hit "Shadow Days", called "Queen Of California", and it reminds me quite a bit of James Taylor, with lyrics that possibly foreshadow this pairing?
...and entering at #50 is Brandi Carlisle, who had a cool adult-pop hit in 2007 with "The Story". She's here with a song from her excellent top-10 record Bear Creek, "That Wasn't Me", with a powerful video featuring Kris Kristofferson..
Meanwhile, on the Modern Rock radio chart, fun score a second #1 hit with "Some Nights"...
The top debut is by Christian metal kings P.O.D. at #36 with "Lost In Forever (Scream)", which is already top-20 on the main rock list. They had a #1 Modern Rock hit in 2001 with "Youth Of A Nation"...
...while at #39 is Northern Irish indie-rock band Two Door Cinema Club, who had a minor hit last year with "What You Know" from their debut album, Tourist History, and now are back with a preview of their sophomore set, "Sleep Alone"...
On the Triple-A (hipster radio) list, The Lumineers' "Ho Hey" remain at the top, while there is only one new song, but it heralds the return of the Wallflowers, whose last record was seven years ago. In 1998, Jakob Dylan and the band had one of the biggest songs of the year with "One Headlight". Glad All Over is due in October, and the preview single at #19 featuring the Clash's Mick Jones is "Reboot The Mission"...
I'm diggin' on it, and really recommend checking at Two Door Cinema's debut. Next up in an hour and a half is the latest R&B hits. Take care!
