"Diggin' On You" - TLC
from the album CrazySexyCool (1994)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #5 (three weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 16

Today's song of the day comes from the R&B/Hip-Hop group TLC, whose Grammy-winning sophomore album CrazySexyCool had already spun off two #1 pop hits in "Creep" and "Waterfalls" as well as one ("Red Light Special") that went to #2. While "Waterfalls" was lingering on pop radio, urban stations started playing the album cut "Kick Your Game" to the point that it showed up on the R&B Airplay chart for seven weeks in the late summer of 1995, peaking at #69. That fall, the trio released the fourth proper single from the album, the smooth midtempo jam "Diggin' On You". Written and produced by Babyface, the song continued their streak. A supposed "live mix" was used for the music video, though those vocals sure sound studio-done...

"Diggin' On You" became TLC's fourth top-5 pop hit from CrazySexyCool in December of 1995. The song also climbed to #7 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single made the top ten Down Under in Australia (#6) and New Zealand (#8), while reaching the top-40 in the UK (#18), Ireland (#21), Switzerland (#29), and the Netherlands (#32).
