"Tear the Roof Off The Sucker (Give Up The Funk)" was a big urban radio hit for the funk outfit started by George Clinton, Parliament. Appearing on their album Mothership Connection, the song was written by Clinton with bandmates Bootsy Collins and Jerome Brailey. Although it never charted on Billboard's Dance Club charts, it was a DJ and fan favorite (probably it didn't chart because it didn't have an extended dance mix released). Meanwhile the song climbed to #5 on the American R&B chart and #15 on the official.
