Songoftheday 1/12/20 - Your lips your smile your tenderness ooh baby, the way you walk I can't resist your style...

"Pretty Girl" - Jon B.
from the album Bonafide (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #25 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's song of the day comes from pop singer Jon B., who had landed a top ten pop and R&B hit with his first try on the Babyface-assisted single "Someone To Love" from the movie Bad Boys. For the second release from his own debut album, Babyface was still on board, writing and producing (though not getting a credited singing role) "Pretty Girl". The midtempo love track still had the singer sound strikingly like his mentor/producer, I'm sure convincing people this really was a Babyface record in everything but name...

"Pretty Girl" became Jon B's second top-40 pop hit in America in November of 1995. The song also climbed to #21 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single earned Jon his first hit in the UK, peaking at #78 ("Someone to Love" was released second and hit #98), while peaking at #12 in New Zealand. A third release from the album, "Isn't It Scary", got to #68 on Billboard's R&B Airplay chart.
