Songoftheday 8/10/19 - You were looking so good to me the night we met I could not see, how deep you were to penetrate my heart...

"Every Day Of The Week" - Jade
from the album Mind, Body & Song (1994)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #20 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 19

Today's song of the day comes from the female vocal trio Jade, who had made a big splash with their debut album Jade To The Max in 1992, scoring three top-40 pop hits with "I Wanna Love You", "One Woman", and the top ten smash "Don't Walk Away". Joi Marshall, Di Reed, and Tonya Kelly returned two years later with their sophomore effort, Mind, Body & Song, which would end up being their swan song album. Lead single "5-4-3-2 (Yo! Time Is Up)" was a bouncy and sassy enough new jack number, but despite rising to #13 on the R&B chart in Billboard magazine, the single stalled all the way down at #72 on their pop Hot 100 chart. Luckily, they were able to turn things around for one more big hit with their second release, "Every Day Of The Week". Written by song doctor Antonina Armato along with Ken Miller and Robert Jerald, the mid-tempo new jack swing-style number gained favor again with mainstream radio, returning them to the pop top-40...

"Every Day Of The Week" became Jade's fourth and final top-40 pop hit in January of 1995. The single also rose to #15 on Billboard's R&B chart. Internationally, the song hit the British top-40 at #19, while being a minor hit in Canada (#85) and Germany (#79).

Despite the success of the song, no more singles came from the album and soon Jade found themselves dropped from Giant Records (who were going through major turmoil) and split as a group. In 1997, Joi and Tonya recorded a one-off single as Jade for the soundtrack to the movie The 6th Man starring Marlon Wayans. The result, "Keep On Rising", went to #50 on the R&B chart, Jade's final placing.

The "B-side" of the "Every Day Of The Week" single was the quiet storm slow jam "If The Mood Is Right", which got enough airplay on urban stations to be listed on the chart entry on the R&B chart in Billboard magazine for all of its 20 weeks...
