"You Know How We Do It" - Ice Cube
from the Album Lethal Injection (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #30 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's song of the day comes from rapper Ice Cube, who broke into the mainstream in 1993 with his album The Predator, which spun off a pair of top-20 pop hits with "It Was a Good Day" and "Check Yo Self". At the end of the year, O'Shea Jackson released yet another album, Lethal Injection, preceded by the "hype single" "Really Doe". That track went to #3 on Billboard magazine's Rap Singles chart, and #30 on the R&B chart, but the street-styled record stalled down at #55 on the pop Hot 100, though it wasn't really not meant for pop radio consumption (despite the Pointer Sisters sample). No, the "real" lead single for radio would be "You Know How We Do It", which instead of contorting Pointer Sister vocals, based its groove on the opening bassline of the Evelyn King gem "The Show Is Over". And radio, and from that sales, responded favorably...

"You Know We Can Do It" became Ice Cube's third top-40 pop hit in April of 1994. The song also climbed to #21 on Billboard's R&B chart, and #5 on their Rap Singles list. Internationally, the single missed the Top-40 by a notch at #41.
