"Please Forgive Me" - Bryan Adams
from the album So Far, So Good (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #7 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 26
Today's song of the day comes from Canadian rock star Bryan Adams, who started the 1990s with his Waking Up The Neighbours album, which spun off five top-40 pop hits in America with "Do I Have To Say The Words?", "Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven", "There Will Never Be Another Tonight", "Can't Stop This Thing We Started", and the love theme from Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You", which spent seven weeks at #1. After a worldwide tour, Bryan finally took a break, releasing his first greatest-hits compilation called So Far, So Good. The record contained thirteen of his most beloved songs, as well as one new track, the power-ballad "Please Forgive Me". Written and produced by Bryan with Robert "Mutt" Lange, the song didn't break any new sonic ground, but did the trick with the local soccer moms...(WARNING: CUTE PUPPY ALERT)
"Please Forgive Me" returned Bryan to the American pop top ten in November of 1993. The song spent five weeks at #2 on Billboard magazine's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. Internationally, the single topped the Canadian singles chart for five weeks, did the same in Australia for seven weeks, and in France for two weeks, in Norway for five weeks, in Belgium for six weeks, and in Ireland for a week. It also reached the top ten in the UK (#2), Austria (#2), Sweden (#2), Switzerland (#2), Denmark (#2), Finland (#2), Iceland (#2), Germany (#3), the Netherlands (#3), Italy (#6), and New Zealand (#7).
